There is definitely some play in there, but is it too much? The drivers side had less play. I checked my Toyota history and the original owner of my truck (2003) had the lower ball joint recall done in 2005. I don't hear any clunking when driving. It has been on my to-do list to check this out.

The only "acceptable" amount of play is .5mm....which you won't be able to see. So if you see any play at all its time to change them out.

Also I think you'll get a better idea of how much play they have if you use a pry bar to check. I just changed mine out and they looked like they had the same amount as yours did. The new ones I installed had zero visible play whatsoever after I put them in

Thanks for the feedback. I had a big pry bar under the tire pushing up on the tire. Maybe I should have put a board between the tire and crow bar so I could have wailed on it. I was pretty sure I saw play, but thought I would get an opinion from someone that has experience with it.
It isn't flopping around so I guess I can take a few weeks to get things together and replace them..... and not have the tire fall off :)

Yeah that method works too, in your video you can see the balljoint moving independently a bit which isnt good. I usually put a pry bar between the LBJ bolt head and the end of the LCA and push up\down which will show of there's any movement in the joint.
