Question on the "small" and "large" switch...I don't have any room/open slots below the HVAC controls.

Will your "large" switch fit here, next to the AUTO light switch?

Yep, the blank you have on the right is the "large" switch.

From my notes, I believe the harness will come with a splice between the pin 1 and pin 3 to make the text always illuminate.

To make the text never light up (but upper figure on switch will still light when active), then just cut the splice jumper and cap and stow those wires.

To make the illumination of text and upper figure all tied to the button, remove existing splice 1 to 3 and re-splice pin 2 to pin 3 in the new harness.

It would be a couple minute job on the bench.

    I THINK.

I would have to double check, but that sounds about correct. I'll be adding it to the instructions as an optional modification for powering the LEDs. The odd thing with the way these switches are made, there is no way to get dimming of both LEDs. Only one of them is powered from the illumination pin. The other is taken directly from the +12V pin. Any clue what the minimum voltage of the IL circuit is? I was looking through the service manual and couldn't find any info. If it isn't too low, it would be possible to control the relay from it. The pickup voltage on these relays is about 9.5V and they only draw about 75mA.

Havent investigated that yet. Glancing at the schematics (at work...) leads me to think that 12V is applied to one side of the lighting circuit thru tail light relay, as soon as parking lights are on. The dimming seems to come on the ground side of the lighting circuit inside the combination meter.

So there may be a way to work with this. (Maybe use the truck lighting ground for the new switch lighting ground? I dont know, just thinking out loud)

Will try to post up schematic clippings of what I have found if I get a chance

You can get rid of that "ECT" button by getting a manual transmission truck.

I thought they were doing the dimming on the ground side, but haven't verified on my truck. I know the dimming is done in the combination meter. It looks like the tail light relay gives 2 levels, while the meter likely does PWM with infinite levels? I will get a meter on my truck tonight, and possibly the scope.

Based on schematic, looks to be generally as you say. I have never metered it.

Only thing I found on the repair manual is it says 'pulse generation' for pin C9-15 to ground, (which is the lighting negative side.)

No example of waveform or description of min or max that I see.

Ref RM0000012GA0CLX in the repai manual for the only real reference I see.

Thanks man! Just so happens after ripping off half my rear bumper, and subsequently my BSM system, I now have a nice place to put a new switch.

Got about 1/4 of the relays and all the hold down clips today in the mail. The rest should be here in the next week or two.

    what about going to 4lo?

Is it possible or do you need to go 2lo back to 2hi then into 4lo?
I'm considering this as 2lo is enough for a lot of logging road type trails, nice to be in low range so easier on the tranny temps and torque but no need for the actual 4wd.
But would be nice if you can go back and forth easily.

You do need to go back to 2hi following the steps in the FAQ. The 4x4 ecu will not shift the TC or ADD even if you turn off the 2LO switch.

Just checking, the small switch should fit overhead?

I think it’s the same switch as the vsc/trac. I have one open space up there.

I have to drive up and down nine mile canyon next week and two low would be awesome for it while pulling a trailer. Next trip up to the sequoia/sierras I’ll report back on it, lol. Can’t wait.
