Sweet, I had heard it was pretty flimsy but just didnt want to just in case. I was heavily considering a flat bed but I really couldn't find too many designs I am really in love with. I was thinking I might just keep the bed on and try and find a canopy with ambulance doors so I dont have to buy a new tailgate.

I will be checking it regularly! I was also wondering what the benifits of the BAMF hangers? They look nice and stout though lol

Since you already have a trailer hitch, that provides a lot of extra frame support so the spare tire crossmember might not be doing much anyway.

That makes sense, i was just went and looked at them and they do seem uber thin for what they are designed for. I might as well replace them if I am already that deep into it haha.

I did not think of that, but i think I might get a new bumper just cause but its not on a high priority right now since I havr bigger fish to fry with the truck right now. Although i really want to get something pelfry had with the swing out spare tire carrier.

Is it not legally your truck? Why can't you take the truck home and have the Insurance company pay you what the body shop quoted to fix it?

Help me understand. You say you bought it back. Did they give you truck back plus 12k? You said they were going to give you 17K+ and buy back was 5k.

So I guess for a follow up since its been a month or so... I finally have the truck put back together and now its ready to drive. I mostly needed to get the rear bumper back on and ordered a few things from toyota like the bolts, and one of the bed rails and some of the clips to reattach it. I also put a new set of bushwacker fender flairs on since the old ones were scratched and scuffed up by the auto body shop. I also got a new tailgate off of Amazon that was color matched to order, luckily the latches and hinges and the plastic was still in good enough shape to reuse at least for now. The only thing I want to do is take it in the a frame shop to get it checked and straightened if needed but driving the truck around town today wasnt bad at all, it didnt pull one way or another when I breaked or accelerated. I did notice the steering wheel is kicked a little to the right but we'll see what the frame shop has to say.

I should have taken a picture of the new tailgate but this is what it looks like now!

Here is the tail gate, it came with a fine powder on it. I need to wash it still, but the color matches as far as I can see.

Also got my roof rack back on.

Also trying to get my Warn Trans4mer bumper sanded down and repainted since it is already off the truck. The powerder coating on it had been flaking off since I got it used on CL and it was starting to rust. 20190622_160205.jpg20190622_160205.jpg 20190622_160216.jpg 20190622_160221.jpg

I wouldn't take it to the frame shop first. Take it to an alignment shop. If they can align it the frame it ok or not bent enough to worry about fixing

Yeah man, it sucks. I hope that their insurance will be able to take care of it. It looks like your bumper got bent some, how did the spare carrier hold up?

If anyone was wondering where I got my tailgate, it was here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074VB8RT7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It seems to fit pretty well and the color matches! The one thing that I am having an issue with it the metal piece at the back of the bed (65241) was bent from the tailgate being bent in. I guess the latches held on with everything they had.

I might try and replace it at some point, I saw a write up here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replace-the-rear-cross-sill.553664/

But for now my tailgate is latching and the taillights are not falling out so its not my number 1 priority.

My story: 2008 SR5, new frame, shocks, tires. Banged her good, no frame damage. (All last year). Totalled by insurance. Offered $18k 5yrs after I paid $13k for it.
Was considering buying it back from auction site. It sold for $1.6k with a note about possible transmission problem. BS! Tranny was good. There’s scamming going on!
