Im running 35" tires with plans to go 37"+. Has anyone dropped 5.29's into their rig?

Ive always liked using this calculator. It takes a few minutes to fill in all the information but once your done it’s super exact and gives you speed and rpm figures at the bottom

    Ya I’ve used that calculator

Left is 4.88, right is 5.29 on 35’s

I’m looking for some real world input and experience

    Some of the things...
Having just gone to 4.56's on my 6 speed with 35's... I regret not going 4.88's. If your serious about going bigger or getting some serious weight in the truck I'd lean towards 5.29's. Keep in mind though, they are a weaker gearset compared to something higher (<5.29's). Something to keep in mind also, with factory gearing and sad oem tires, my truck was at 2450 rpms @ 70. What I did notice on 35s amd 4.56s is thats number jumped to around 2650 and I find the engine is happier pulling small grades and my mileage has not widly suffered. I say if you can keep your crusie rpm under 3k and gain all the leverage back then do it!

I recently regeared to 4.88's from 4.56's. IMHO, I think the 4.88's are perfect for my truck. At an actual 60 mph, RPM's are right at 2500, maybe a hair below the line.
If you feel comfortable cruising on the freeway at higher RPM's than that then maybe would consider 5.29's. For me, that would have been to big of a jump in RPM's. It would however, be a beast in 4lo. Lol

Ima do this to my third gen with a stage 2 URD. I do less highway driving now back on the mainland than I did in Hawaii .. not sure how that happened.

Well, FINALLY got around to installing in less than a year.

I’ll admit 5.29’s are overkill, the torque is awesome though. It’s nice being able to make a steady 30-60 MPH pull in 6th gear. Right now I’m sitting at 3200 @70MPH, once these 35’s are spent I’ll be going to 37’s

I have a 6 speed s/c 2nd gen that I put 5.29s in recently. Thing screams down the highway, and not it the good kind of way.. haha very torque’y and fun at lower speeds tho. And great offroad. If I had to do it again I would probably consider 4.88s or 4.56s

Do you think this issue would be semi resolved with 37s? Highway driving is brutal on 35s now with 5.29s

I’d have to run it through a gear ratio calculator, but yes I know it would be closer to stock. Part of the reason I decided over gear was for the eventual jump to 37’s and extra weight
