Im new to the off roading scene. I have a 2015 Tacoma PRO with 265/70/16 Tires. I was wondering if i can fit 295/75/16 without any problems.

    Lol no.
Anything over 265/75/16 will cause rubbing. Some people have gotten lucky 275s. 285s nearly always require cutting and trimming. 295s, you’re probably talking about a lot of work plus a re-gear.

I have 295s. To truly fit the tire and never rub, you have to remove your coilover, and use a floor jack to shove the tire as high as it’ll go. Then turn lock to lock and cut all the shit out of the way.

I did this. I had to cut up my cab mount pretty aggressively, ditch the plastic liners, hammer my pinch weld flat, massage back my firewall with a hammer, and trim the lower portion of my fenders. Not flares, fenders.

And with whatever choice you make, the wheel specs have as much to do with things as lift and tire size

7.5” wide and 3.6” BS. Those are oem tundra wheels with 1.25” spacers on the front. 2” on the back to clear my shocks.

So to install 295s I would have to do everything you did or do a proper lift on my Taco?

Thank you everyone for the feedback!

No, lift plays no role in clearing larger tires. The only time lift helps is at right height, so driving on level ground and never hitting bumps. You’d have to to the work I did to properly fit them.

I say properly because most people don’t go through the effort and live with some rubbing. I hate it so I wanted no rubbing.

While wheeling in Moab a week and a half ago I found more rubbing on my flare and fender, which were already trimmed.... so I pulled the flares in a friends driveway, trimmed a little of the fender and wheeled away. So now I’m contemplating a proper 2” fender and flare trim (with my 295/75r16 BFG A/T KO2s on -25mm 16x8 SCS F5s). I am coming around to the no flare idea... What little tabs or plugs or whatever do you have in the flare clip holes? And what did you do about missing fender liners?

Love your truck by the way

Cutting a LOT, removing fender liners (at least the lower portions, chopping your body mount, hammering your pinch welds & even trimming the OUTER fenders will all be required on any wheel offset you choose if you want MINIMAL or NO rubbing. If you google this type of question with “tacoma world” also in the search you’ll find a TON of useful threads and write ups on what specifically needs done.

I had to trim so aggressively even just for my particular 33” setup, it wasn’t even a big deal to go to 35’s because I had already trimmed so much.

You don’t need to trim the fenders themselves all the way around if you don’t have to. I cleared them by about .75” at full bump. It was only the lower portion.

For fender plugs I followed this thread. A lot of work but worth it. I get a lot of compliments and questions about them.

Aside from the obvious rubbing issues, what are most of you guys doing about the VSC issue that is common after lifting and putting larger tires on?
The zero point recalibration does not always work for this issue.
Ideally keeping the function active and not disabling it.

Does my 2008 even have VSC? I don’t think it does. It has hardly nothing besides an E locker

Just for example. This was the outer fender, inner fender liner, and pinch weld trimming I had to do just to clear 285/75/16’s.

Likely it’s wheel offset. Just the right offset and maybe there’s minimal rubbing. Or maybe they just drive like little old ladies in town? You see people in TW with 285/75r16 etc that say they have no rubbing. Total bullshit. Likely they don’t wheel or even drive with gusto in town. I trimmed a little and thought great no rubbing with my 295/75r16. Even tried to stuff them. But found rubbing coming into a driveway a little hot at full lock. If you plant to use your truck like a truck, you will have to trim in 285s and up. Just the way it is

It will definitely be more for 295s. Full and aggressive hammering of the pinch weld. Aggressive CMC and pretty healthy fender and flare trimming.

You can see where I found rubbing on already trimmed fenders.

After all that I found that the fenders were good. I just ditched the flares. But some of the absolute faintest rubbing on the agro CMC and a little rubbing on the smashed pinch weld.
