I agree. Just from filling out the last few years worth of Toyota Owner's Surveys and the questions asked, Im betting a hybrid is on the way.

Just swapped to the Tacoma from a 2014 JKU. So far I have no regrets. Are their some things that I don't prefer on the Taco, sure but overall I'm enjoying my truck more and more everyday. I hope the next generation has some better seating room, head room slightly taller seat from the floor up. I've experienced a few the main complaints with the Tacoma, but so far nothing has been a deal breaker for me. I push that ECT button everyone though!

I am trying really hard to like my 2019 TRDOR. I take it off-road and I truly like it. I drive it around town and I see myself being able to live with it. Then I go on the highway and I absolutely hate it.

It’s great having the convenience of a pickup bed. Today I used the truck bed for the first time picking some patio furniture. But then I had to get on the freeway to pick up some items 30 miles away...and everything that sucks about this truck came to the forefront: the incompetent transmission, the gutless engine, the horrid noises and vibrations when you press the motor.

I’m torn at the moment; there isn’t much else out there that turns my crank. I can start looking for a used Jeep Wrangler JK in good shape, or I can ride this Tacoma out for another year to see if I can pick up a used Gladiator at a decent price.

Finding the right used Jeep will take several months but it may be worth it at this point.

I don't know about the 2019 Tacoma's but I have a 2018 that I've had for almost a year and I can't figure out why these trucks are Soo popular. Just look at it they get crappy gas mileage and don't go on a long trip, they are not wired for a trailer brake controller I just hope that I can get out of it and go back to a full size GMC truck

If you pull the drivers side kick panel off you will find the plug for a brake controller.

Mine got turble MPG's for the first 5K miles...mostly all city driving. Then I stretched its legs on a 650 mile trip. Started getting 3 or 4 mpg's more after that. I think it "learns" your driving. Or either I wasn't constantly putting my foot into it like I was on the new truck. Either way, at 36K I now get 19-20 mpgs regularly.

It’s because of perceived quality, dependability and high resale value. Owners put up with the lack of headroom, awkward seating position, hunting transmission, poor fuel mileage, etc.

I don't know how you feel about it but it's not worth it. The new Chevrolets and GMC hold their value also

    ^^^ this!

I guess the issue then is that different people have different sets of priorities.

I really appreciate the tip. But gawd the whole thing just sounds like the biggest pain in the ass. Not just checking the fluid level, but the process to get it done, and having to go around the dealers to get it done properly.

I have to figure out if I want to jump through all these hoops, or if I simply put up with the retarded transmission. A part of me just wants to park the damn truck and not deal with any of it.

^^^I bought a similar Taco out of the Pattison Toyota Victoria showroom 3 weeks ago and feel the same: zero complaints although it did initially burn quite a bit of fuel until I figured out to drive it at a lower rpm to get good fuel economy, or keep the revs up like a four cylinder to get maximum power.

I have a '19 TRD Sport, and have had it since January of '19, literally delivered straight to my house from the factory. I absolutely adore the truck. I initially bought an '08 Tacoma TRD Sport about a month before they announced the 3rd gen Tacomas, and I immediately fell in love with the new truck. It upset me that I bought the 2nd gen when I did. Anyway, that's not what you want to hear.
Just like others, there ARE some things about the truck that I nitpick about. The throttle sometimes feels lacking, but it's not enough to deter me from loving the truck. The gas milage kind of stinks, but that's partly because of how I have to drive everyday and the fact that it's a truck. Other than that, really I don't have any problems with it. I don't like all the chrome, but I'm almost done removing all of that, lol.
As for the things that I like, I mean, where do I start? It looks aggressive as all heck. It doesn't look like a more generic version of Toyota's full size truck like Chevy's, Ford's, or (most recently) Jeep's. It drives like a car, to include the turning radius and how nimble it is. On mine, specifically, the color is fantastic. I mean, I can go on and on.

    Final verdict:
I am extremely happy with my Tacoma. I can wholeheartedly say that it is my dream truck!

2019 TRD Sport DCLB is two weeks old now and I've put 700 miles on it. I traded in my base model 2009 Tacoma 4x2 with the access cab, 4 cyl, and MT that I bought brand new 10 years ago. I honestly would have kept the 09 a few more years except my kids have gotten too big for the back of the access cab.

Overall I'm really happy with the 19, but there are two things that bug me. The mileage sucks, but I'm sure I'll accept it eventually. The more annoying on is that the built in navigation is pretty useless and it doesn't have Apple Carplay or whatever so I can't use Maps on my phone and display it on the Entune screen. So I have this giant touchscreen that adds god knows how much to the cost of the truck, and doesn't really do much for me beyond simple BT connection to stream audio. Guess it's my bad for not researching it, but I was expecting it to be awesome after coming from my 2009 AM/FM/CD player LOL.

I'm planning to haul a popup camper, 4 mountain bikes, a canoe, and two kayaks. We'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll update this post after...
