Guys...……...the drivers seat moving under any circumstances is NOT NORMAL. Under ANY conditions. Screw that. Take that shit to the dealer and make them FIX IT.

Once you adjust the seat to where you want it just use your legs to push back with some force to lock it in.

So weird. Both the passenger and driver seats had a similar action when rocking back and forth. Laid into it as described with the passenger seat and locked right in and is extremely stable and not moving. Tried with drivers side and it will just not lock in and still has action. Extremely frustrating.

Going to head over to the dealership and see if they can figure it out. Thanks everyone for the tips I'll update this thread when I see what they say.

When I took it to the dealer they gave me a bs answer saying it was within limitations.

Had a similar issue in my truck. Took it to the dealer and was told there was no issue, that brand new trucks do it.

I sat in and compared a brand new truck and mine, the difference was clear. The service tech participated in the test and then agreed there was an issue.

The seat assembly was replaced under warranty. It’s an expensive part, roughly 600 if I recall correctly.

They are telling me that "There is no abnormal movement noted at this time" while conceding that it moves more than trucks off the lot..... Pretty frustrating that they're recognizing that there is an issue but not fixing it.

They said we can get the Toyota Rep involved if I want, which is absolutely what I am doing. I'll update if there is ever anything more to update.

My passenger seat has done this since the day I bought it. Took it back and checked another one the lot and it did the exact same thing so chalked it up as “normal”.

How about your drivers side though? That’s the thing that makes me feel a little off about this. Why is one side not completely locking while the other side is?

This is not a huge deal, but seems like if one side is solid and the other is not that something should be done to make it more solid. Could it be a grease issue down there or something like that?

I posted this in another thread. I found an easy hack to get the seatback to stop slopping back and forth while driving.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/driver’s-seat-has-some-play-in-it-19-trd-pro.600502/#post-20984943

    --------

    1) Sit in the seat like you normally would while driving.
    2) Reach back with your right hand and grab the back of the seat like you are going to pull the seat back forward.
    3) Now with your left hand lift the seatback adjustment handle like you are going to adjust the seat.
    4) Carefully lean back into the seat with only the left side of your back while also pulling the back of the seat forward with your right hand -- You don't have to push or pull very hard, just a little bit.
    5) Slowly lower the adjustment lever down while also moving the seat back forward or backwards just a tiny bit until the adjustment handle drops into place.
    6) If the adjustment handle drops all the way down into place then you need to repeat steps 2-5 again. Ideally, you want the handle to drop about 3/4 of the way into place, this is the setting where you will get no seatback play. You may have to do this a few times until you get the feel of it.
    7) Once you have it set, test the seatback to make sure its securely in place by putting your weight into it a few times.

And you're done. You should now have zero seatback play.

Nice! I actually did try that but this is not the seat back but the actual locking system on the bottom that is not working correctly.

With the passenger side, after moving into position the seat will move the same as the drivers side issue I’m dealing with, but I can “lay into it” to get it to set. On the drivers side, when I attempt to “lay into it” no setting happens.

    Does this make sense?

I should note that I’m at 600 miles and it seems within the realm of possibility that things just need to break in?

The rep is at the dealer tomorrow bringing it back to have him look at it without me there.

definitely... sounds like the teeth on one side aren't locking in place. Does it feel like just one side of the seat is moving or both?

I’ve had this as well wiggling around while pushing back and forth seems to get it to lock in place.

It does actually! The right side (when I’m sitting) seems to be making more noise.

I’ve tried wiggling quite a bit while trying to set it but slightly afraid to go too much harder as I don’t want to make it even worse....

Talked to the rep this morning at the dealer and showed him the issue. He conceded that there was more movement than new trucks off the lot and approved replacement of the frame. Didn't seem particularly happy about it and said there will always be some movement, but that there is more on this one for whatever reason.

The deciding factor seemed to be that the passenger side eventually clicked after rocking and the driver side never did.

Thanks everybody for the help and contribution to the thread. Weird that Toyota would send out trucks with so much movement in the seat and a little bummed to be already having a repair on the truck, but happy to have it worked out now as opposed to after the warranty has expired.
