What bulbs are you guys using that is causing this to happen? People should know what to avoid....

I know several 3rd gen owners who have made the switch (including myself) to LED bulbs for the interior from Superbrightleds and have 0 issues for 1+ year now.

FFS I just cancelled my LED order from Amazon. I don’t need a bunch of electrical issues on a new truck.

Possibly the third brake light leaking?
Any light stains/discoloration in the rear of the headliner?

That was my first thought. I checked and found nothing. My next plan is to run water on each suspect spot (third brake light, fin, door jams), eliminating each until I find the culprit.

Exactly, led stands for light emmitting diode. A diode allows current to flow in one direction so they only work in one orientation. Some fancier ones have crossover circuits that allow either orientation while still allowing current to only flow the correct way through the led(s). It is still possible to have a short in a lamp assembly but even then if a fuse blows and a problem crops up elsewhere the problem is bad engineering since the fuse is proven inadequate to isolate a surge.

I'm in the same boat here. Lights stay on. Truck is under warranty. I put the stock bulbs back in. Going to take it to dealership next week. What did you "tell them" how the problem started occurring? Thanks!

I just installed LED’s in mine and ran into the same problem. The map lights are designed so that you can push the lenses to turn them on and off. Sometimes when installing the LED’s you accidentally push the switch to the on position. The switch is located in the recess near where the bulbs go. It’s a little black protrusion in a hole. All you have to do is push on it again with the tip of a pen or pencil or something to reset it back to the off position. People are way overthinking this.

The problem I’m having with mine is that the LED’s don’t fit the brass base designed for the halogen bulbs very well. I can only get one side to stay on very long because it doesn’t make a solid contact.

Led’s are and bright and nice to have if you can get them to work correctly. But they are a pain in the ass if they don’t.

So I finally got around to problem solving my issue. To recap: When it would rain, my dome light would stay on, and after everything would dry out, the light would go off.

Because I was busy, I removed the dome light fuse. It remained removed for a about a month. This weekend I replaced the fuse and ran water all over the exterior - 3rd brake light, fin, doors, windows...everywhere. I could not get the dome light to come on, everything was working normal. I would love some help/thoughts? My warranty is up next month.

Wait 5 weeks and it'll come back. :anonymous: It may take a little time for enough moisture to get in and cause the problem to reoccur. Maybe try the drive through carwash?

Good idea, I’ll try a spray wash today.

Has anyone had this fixed "under warranty"? And if so, what did you tell the dealership? I'm taking my Tacoma in next Wednesday and having the problem fixed (I hope). I put the stock bulbs back in. Don't know what to tell the dealership how the "problem" started so it will still be covered under warranty. Thanks!

Slightly different issue, but just a couple of weeks ago, I tried to turn off traction control, and notice it was turning on my dome and map lights. Also with the atrac and diff lock. At first I recall atrac indicator would come on but after turn off the truck and none of the traction control buttons would show anything on the dash but it would turn on my dome and map.lights. not sure what's going on. It was raining and snowing while I first noticed it.

Is there a fuse I could I check? Also I have LEDs replaced and the meso puddle lights installed, I tried disconnecting the meso puddles.but didnt fix the issue. Might need to revert all the mods and take her in :(

When my dome light would not turn off after raining, I pulled the dome light fuse. After a month, I replaced the fuse and was going to work on solving the problem but everything works fine now. For the life of me, I can’t get the dome light to stay on. I have power washed every inch to try to replicate a hard rain, but no luck. By pulling the fuse, I must have reset something. Try pulling the fuse and leaving it out for a day.

looks like it's a short in the overhead console circuit board. luckily Ext warranty is covering it. or it would have been a $350 fix. still not 100% sure what caused the short. as all the LED bulbs are still working.

Have you tried pressing the light? They can switch on and off individually that way.

Thanks Dilbert. I’m embarrassed to admit that solved the problem. Dryfly in post 169 reminded me about the lenses being able to control each light. I knew that, having used that feature many times. However, it slipped my mind. I went to delete my post but you were too quick. Appreciate your responding!
