Advice sought on purchasing a 2019 vs 2020 Offroad...

Since all the spacer does is pivot the chair on the front mounts, it just angles it forward. However, since the seat comes really sunken-down from the factory, it does lift you up a decent amount. Feels more like you're sitting in an F-150. For ~$30, it's hard to say no.

 

I can’t live without my CarPlay. That alone would tip the scales for me. The $$ and time spent on my dinosaur installing those upgrades were a bit of a pain in the butt. Never buying a car without it.

 

The price tag on the part number that corresponds with the 2020 Carplay headunit is in the ballpark of $3750-$4000. If you buy a 2020, you're better off selling your truck's headunit and buying an aftermarket one so you can bank $2500

It is funny to watch guys talk about all these newfangled features you "can't live without". Maybe I have just been driving my 96 4Runner too long. All I am looking for is a 6MT, locking rear diff, fits a car seat, and this time I want one of those key chains that has a button that unlocks your doors from a distance. Now that would be nice.

 

Personally, i plan on waiting til the 2020's are out so i can snatch a 2019 on the cheap.....unless i fall in love with a 20 on the lot. (Must. Keep. Away.)

 

Just remember, you don't need the fancy pants. A smoking deal on a 2019 might be the ticket

 

Is it just me or are power seats totally overrated? I set my seat to the way I like it and leave it that way for years. Spending thousands extra to get a motorized part that I'll use maybe once or twice during the first month of ownership seems excessive. The only time I have seen a use for power chairs is in sports cars where the seat rolls back to help you get in and out of the vehicle.

 

I’m one of those that actually does use it. I’ve had chronic back problems my whole life. I’m constantly fiddling with the seat adjustments and power seats give you far more options. I’ll change my seating position day to day just based on the thickness of my clothing.

 

I guess that's one benefit of being really tall. All I do in new vehicles is put it all the way back and set the lumbar and back angle correctly and I'm on my way. Hell, my WRX didn't even have lumbar adjustment so my Tacoma feels like a luxury vehicle.

 

The only thing that people want is the seat to raise and lower. I wonder if they have non powered raising and lowering seats

 

You can buy seat spacers, that's the only mod I'm doing to my truck until the warranty is up.

 

Still very thankful for all the input on this thread - you guys have given us lots to think about.

Our current position is that we're going to go back to the dealership this weekend when the 2019 arrives and renegotiate - using feedback from this thread and knowledge of the forthcoming 2020 to do so... but that the 38K we negotiated is probably not such a good deal afterall. Maybe 35.5 or 36...

Alnmike mentioned that keyless entry handles could be upgraded for $100... I'm curious where/how... And, is this upgrade only for AT's? He also mentioned a forward camera "mod" that is $50... is this something else that is common knowledge to Taco enthusiasts?

Regarding power seats... Since we use the vehicle for long drives it is nice to tweak the seat a bit to keep comfortable - but most of all being able to raise the seat during off-roading for visibility, but keeping it in the most comfortable driving position the rest of the time, and being able to adjust it easily depending on who is driving, are nice features.

The handles aren't really that big of a deal. Gotta pull the key out to start the car anyway. But when my arms are full of groceries it is nice...

It sounds like the LED's are a big unknown: whether they will be an upgrade or disappointing downgrade from the current model year.

CarPlay... Well that's something I definitely want and while it would be nice to use the fully integrated stock stereo of the 2020, aftermarket head units are available for the 2019.

The cameras are purported to be an option in the 2020 so who knows how much additional $$$ they'll cost.

Perhaps I'm slowly coming around to getting a 2019 after all... but just not at 38K...

 

Keyless entry handles are not an option on manual transmission tacomas. And yes, there are a couple systems for setting up a forward camera. Just do a quick search on the forum and you'll get a couple of threads on it.

Glad one of my must haves was a Longbed, or I'd be super disappointed with no door handle/push button.

 

Toyota drives me mad with their weird omissions from the manual transmission versions of their cars. FOR EXAMPLE:

2015 Toyota Corolla S 6MT could not come with heated seats. No logical reason, just not an option on the stick shift.

As far as I can tell the Tacoma cannot be long bed with the stick shift. No good reason.

I have keyless door handles on my Subaru Impreza stick shift...

 

If you want a long bed MT then you have to get a sport AC.

 

Dang. If only I didn't need the double cab... But that's good to know. One of my buddies is going to be very happy when I tell him it is possible!

 

I got my 2016 TRD off road, granted it's an access cab, for 37k Canadian with 8000km on it. I'd say push for a little better than 38k if you can, or ask them to remove predator steps, tonneau cover and really get that price down if you don't want those items.
