-EDIT- Hey TW, Brian just let me know he’s now offering TW members a 10% discount, use TW10 at check out
At the bottom of this post I’ve linked the new camera I started using that gives me a better FOV

Here’s my experience installing and my review of the www.anytimebackupcamera.com system for my 2018 DCSB with JBL head set. I originally wanted to buy JJ’s system from TRDMOD but he’s no longer selling them and I wanted a clean set up, and this system has been stellar. I am a handy guy but not so inclined for electrical wiring. Here’s my experience:

The harness is a simple plug-and-play system for the rear camera override, front camera lead in, and included relay switch to toggle between video sources. This system does not affect the NAV, radio, or phone functionality while in motion and selecting a camera.
    EEDFE7F1-0CC9-4AC6-9D2F-40FBA7F215A6.jpg 0466DF10-08CC-421F-A87C-E68D82FF0471.jpg

I decided on the DPDT (dual pole, dual throw=dual rocker) Switch. It’s a standard size switch that I put under my cubby.

    A72C0A16-C725-453D-B390-E44FFF7D91A9.jpg

The website clearly lists out which plugs go where and I quickly soldered additional plugs to double up the red and black wires for the switch. Btw I totally thought I had to wire up 12v power for the switch which is not true. The camera needs power but not the switch. So again you don’t need a power source at all for anything behind the radio or the switch, you just need a ground. However if your single switch has dash lights tap the TAN wire on the bed light switch right there on the same panel.

It sounds scary but pulling off the bezel around the radio is astonishingly easy, I didn’t even use tools, just my hands. The radio bolts are 10mm and in 3 minutes you have this-E6D6ABB4-12AE-4775-8B2C-16FA88F298A3.jpg

I snaked all my wires down using one of those cheap grabber things, you could use a coat hanger wire and tape instead613447DE-70AD-4BDB-9867-0E135D70D79D.jpg

I attached the relay under the radio on this 10mm boltE7069C21-9D16-48A2-8181-436FA154EC36.jpg
The relay and plug is on the left

I ran the wires under and up through the lower switch panel. Again 2 lower bolts come out and just simply pull off the lower panel3830DB6B-E4D1-4630-BD79-9085CCC3989D.jpg
I had to dremel just the rear of the slot to make it wide enough to accept the switch. Easy and took 5 mins, the front of the panel looks perfect.

I routed the ground for the relay switch to this bolt on the frame, easy to get to and secure! It’s just to the left of the fuse panel behind the plastic tab
    72057A3B-CC12-47F0-B6BE-9FDE69BB4741.jpg

Next I installed my front camera. I have a knock off pro grille with TSS sensor so I put it just left of center. I drilled a hole and screwed it in while running the cable along with zip ties
    44386067-62DC-4CE4-9FFE-1924671A0F2C.jpg 2A36C497-54FB-4DA0-A425-98F30A6AD493.jpg EF72C5E6-F7C1-4003-A290-0E237569647F.jpg
I used corrugated tubing to protect the wire, the RCA plug is secure but wrapped it just in case and ran it to my fuse block.
    image.jpg

The RCA plug goes through the rubber grommet seal in the fire wall and up to the head unit, to the marked female RCA plug, it’s yellow with the black line (comes that way)
    05DD3347-3629-4D76-9787-ED25314A3834.jpg

    The front camera is clean!
    88BCA9D6-CA9F-48EF-818B-F6F1DEFCE333.jpg

    Can’t even see it barely
    FD3DF618-69D2-4732-B9FE-7B7CB1A1EA80.jpg

The switch is clean as well, it sticks out a little but you get 2 switches in one. When driving I don’t notice it and yet it’s still easy to find. You can do one switch for rear and one for front, but I plan to make use of the 3 cubby spots when I get a plate installed for more accessories
    60C85FDC-2D8A-4359-8666-32CBE26B0FA9.jpg 07D6BAFB-EF70-4A3B-9784-AD590587EA60.jpg

And BAM there’s the front camera to see the trail when nose up, or use it when parking somewhere tight, and you get the rear anytime camera. It’s a clean install that wasn’t hard at all. The guidelines are 4 feet out for reference.

All in all Brian at www.anytimebackupcamera.com has been awesome to work with in supporting his product, and the unit is solid. I hope that helps if you are considering this mod. After using it, it just makes so much sense to have a front camera available.

-EDIT- I know the switch set up can be a little tricky, so here is how I set up my dual rocker switch (DPDT), it was buried in the thread but here you go

Does this effect the navigation system at all?

No it doesn’t other than you can’t see the NAV screen with a camera on. Brian has a NAV override that requires another switch but I don’t need that functionality.

Camera, nothing special as there’s a ton of viable ones out there. It’s sturdy though

Once again, thanks for posting this. A few questions. Having one double switch requires some additional electrical modding on the buyers part? Will i need to let brian know if i want to use a double switch or two singles before i buy the kit? My only concern is that i have the rear slider next to the location you chose and they may interfere with eachother. I have replaced my cubby with a plate so i do have one opening there. TIA

No extra modding. The kit can be used for just rear, or the full kit includes the rear and front camera and relay. The only modification I did was add 2 plugs on the ends of the black and red wires on the harness. I did that because the DPDT Switch has extra terminals to switch POS and NEG throws. Brian’s diagram is simple on his page for SPST or DPDT switches. The relay can be tucked away somewhere other than near the switches. I put mine behind and under the radio.

Oh btw, I don’t know what your switch configuration is but you can easily rearrange your switches that are the same size. Pretty easy to pop them out and move them around

So with this setup, if you put your car into reverse like normal the rear camera will come on? Then if you want to turn the rear camera on while going forward, you can hit the rear camera switch and it comes on? Then same with forward view, just hit front camera on switch?

I have this same setup including a DPDT switch and it works great.. One suggestion if you are pulling everything apart, it's a good time to also add in a switch for navigation Override so you can access all the etune menu items while in motion (like having a passenger enter an address).

I put my dpdt switch in the somewhat vertical potion in front of the parking break and the nav override under the cubby.

Great write up! Very helpful. I already have the kit, just waiting for the AoB switch which is out of stock.

For those with 2018s and Pro grills, I installed the front camera centered above the TSS garnish 298AE581-19DD-4318-92CD-A070AF8EB8AE.jpg with no problems at all.

Yes the rear camera comes on in reverse, and yes you can select it anytime to turn it on. Let’s say you are towing and you wanna make sure everything is good you can take a look. And again yes if you are going forward you can turn on the front view. If you off road we have all had that hill climb to the top of the trail and at the crest you’re trusting that tetonic forces haven’t opened up a 5 mile crack that will swallow you so deep that you can’t even post on Instagram about it....I digress

Or the more likely scenario for me is a tight parking garage, I can squeeze all the way in with the front camera on. :)
