What smalls do I need to swap a new longblock?

    It took just the lightest bit of prying. It was definitely the alignment dowel on the driver side.

    The paint scrapers were super helpful, especially in gauging where I was still tight. 1 scraper fitting is good, 2 scrapers is progress. In super paranoid of damaging stuff so my prying solution was to use my 2 paint scrapers combined with a tiny pry bar from the home Depot paint isle.

    I inserted the two scrapers then tapped the pry bar in between the two. The wedge shaped pry bar tip really only contacted the steel scrapers so I wasn't concerned with damaging the bell housing.

    I widened my gap on the driver side where the pin was stuck, then moved over to the passenger side and slightly wedged it a little. I felt something the immediately let me know it was ready to come out.

    I totally watched those transmission removal videos. I kept thinking "oh man this guy is removing EVERYTHING! I sure hope I don't end up doing that!". The videos were helpful though letting me know I wasn't actually missing anything.

    Here's a tip about touching up the heat shield before you install the new engine. It really helped refurbish mine. I used acetone to prep the surface to get better adhesion.

    I have so much to do today unrelated to this truck. We're not going to make much progress today. Some cleaning this morning.

    • My son shipped off the injectors yesterday to be serviced and flow rates measured. Fingers crossed they are all good to go.
    • I'm building up a parts list to be ordered, I've made contact with McGeorge and setup an account. I'll be emailing the list off hopefully tomorrow.
    • I'm supposed to hear from the engine builder tomorrow about the status (he was waiting on some parts).
    I guess we're still on schedule? I don't really have a set schedule but it seems like things are coming together in a reasonably timely way.

    A few days ago I was at work late chatting with a night custodian. He's a super sharp guy with an interest in metalworking (among 1000 other things). He just picked up some machines from an old guy who got out of the business, a lathe, drill press, milling machine. We got into taking tools and agreed that once you own tools you are OBLIGATED to use them. It's so true.

    Still hunting for a few parts. McGeorge Toyota has been awesome in sending diagrams and helping me find the right part numbers. I highly recommend them and the prices seem to be either the same or less than anywhere else.

    I sent McGeorge an email about this last list of parts, any chance you guys know the part numbers for these items? I am assuming at this hour on a Sunday I am not going to get a response. If I had part numbers I could use some online sites to verify.

    flex plate bolt kit (6 bolts - 1 is black)
    crankshaft bolts - rear - flexplate to crank - 6 bolts
    transmission shaft seal

    Also, what is the best radiator to put in?

    Flex Plate 6 bolts total, 5 of part number 90119-09009 and 1 of part number 90119-09010.

    90311-38020--front transmission pump seal

    Looking for the crankshaft bolts.

    If it has not been brought up you might consider a new fan bracket bearing assembly.

    You can’t buy just the bearing, you have to buy the complete bracket with bearing.

    We've got the longblock!

    While waiting for my McGeorge parts order there are a few things I can get done like mounting the exhaust headers and crosspipe. The engine builder included those gaskets. Should I use anti seize on those studs? There is conflicting reports around the internet but man it seems like I should use it.

    What do you guys think?
