So my truck was stuck in 4hi. I checked the ADD actuator(on front diff) and that tested out okay but wasn't receiving signals. I then checked the other actuator on the transfer case. I removed the plastic housing to see inside and once opened there was dirt and water = mud. Lots of it too. The 3 metal contact strips that control 2h/4h/4L had blue and corotion(I will upload picture eventually). I think the mud was able to get in there because the vacuum line was disintegrated and not secure. My guess is when I used the 4x4, the vacuum effect was able to suck in dirt/water whilst offroading.

My question to TW...is there anyone who knows how to replace those contact strips? I want to attempt fixing before purchasing a new actuator off eBay for $530.

I had a similar issue to this as well. Actually replaced my ADD, which didn’t solve the problem, so I bought a t-case actuator on eBay for about $450. Fortunately, as soon as I took the black cover off of the contractors, it was clear the water and dirt was causing the issue. Ended up replacing the cover which solved the problem. To prevent this, I highly suggest everyone checking the vent tube connected to the case. Mike was cracked and allowed dirt and water to build up, preventing my 4wd from engaging.

Sounds like you lucked out! The contact points on my transfer case actuator are all corroded, did not catch the water/dirt in time unfortunately.

Did you return that actuator? I would take it off your hands if you still have it

Oh I misinterpreted what you said. I'm going to have to do the same.
