Got the Tacoma radiator in the mail yesterday, Motorad 160 thermostat arriving today with install going on tomorrow. I have to machine and ship 7 sets of cam gears tomorrow first but I'm excited to see the difference it makes with cooling.

 

It’s pretty awesome. I’d get up to 220 on stock radiator while running AC/4LO/locked crawling in Moab at 113F outside temp. Since CSF rad I’ve never seen over 200 under same conditions. Best mod I’ve done this year.

 

I've seriously contemplated removing my hood for slow rock crawling situations to prevent the heat build up in the engine bay.

 

Got the CSF radiator in the Taco yesterday. This thing is beautiful in how its made! I wanted to pull the fan and fan shroud to ease install but the dam fan wouldn't come off . It was broke free and would wiggle in place but wouldn't wiggle off the 4 bolts. Ended up pulling the radiator with the fan and the shroud in place. Still wanting to pull the fan to make room to install the 160° thermostat and even with the shroud and radiator out the way it wouldn't wiggle off?? Am I missing something? I remember pulling it years ago and pretty sure its just the 4 bolts right? Anyways gave up on pulling it and worked around it. Stock radiator was incredibly filthy! I cant believe it worked at all with how packed with mud it was. Honestly wonder if a good cleaning would negate the need for the bigger radiator in my case. Cleaned to AC condenser which was also pretty muddy. I left the blue packaging on the CSF radiator to prevent it from getting hurt during install. That worked really well and a recommend it to anyone else installing it. New radiator appears to take about a half gallon more fluid. I put a new gallon of 50/50 mix in and 2 pints of water then filled it the rest of the way with the older fluid. Engine stayed icey cold and averaged temps in the 170s with the ac running (ambient temp of 72°. Trans temps seemed to stay lower too. Can't explain that one other than easier air flow maybe.

 

Just 4 nuts for the fan. Might have a tight interference fit on yours though?

Remember. The CSF radiator has a larger reservoir for the transmission fluid, than OEM. Might need a top off, if you didn't?

The extra cooling capacity also helps with the transmission temps.

 

Nice work. Check your intercooler reservoir. Looks like you have some coolant leaking from the hose coming out of the supercharger on top of the engine. Since you got your hands full of coolant.

 

I’d add electric fans before I pulled the hood for wheeling. I finally got a chance to wheel last week and electric fans did an awesome job!

I looked up the CSF radiator for the 3rd gen on Rockauto and it only has one row of fins unlike the radiator that the 2nd gens are upgrading to which has two rows of fins. Will the smaller single row CSF be an improvement over the OEM or would it be a waste of money? Thanks

 

No, that radiator is just a stock replacement. It’s an OEM radiator that CSF produces for the parts market.

 

@Torspd I didn't top of the trans but on my last drain and fill, I pluged it back up a little before it's at a "trickle" so it's probably about right or just a touch low now.
@henryp it might have an ever so slight leak where you're looking. Been that way for years now and resi is always full so I don't pay it much mind

 

Well now I am going to have to pull my 7076 out of the box and see if it is 42mm thick or 38mm thick. Cause I am pretty sure all the info on it when it first came out was that it was a dual core and 42mm thick. Either way it is paid for already.

Where did you get this info about them being locked down? I ordered all those from Camelback Toyota Parts without a VIN for $38 during the first part of June. Had them 2-3 days later.

 

Dunno what they did to get them released for ya. Not sure when they went manual control. I ordered my initial set no problem last year. Tried to get another set recently and got shut down. Found a vin that worked and got them released on another order.
