Gnarbuckle85’s DCLB 2nd Gen Build

Finally decided to start documenting the progress of my Tacoma build since I am needing to focus on cheaper mods for a while (aka: Ran out of money). This is amateur status compared to some of the other INSANE builds on TW, but still I am fortunate to have gotten this far. Been super blessed with good amigos and TW members providing support. Shout out to @Mynameisbrandin for the help with the Snorkel and suspension work.

Not 100% sure if there is a particular format to be followed but I'll include what I consider to be relevant.

Purchased this 2011 TRD Sport DCLB back in 2015 with 75K Miles already on it. Came with the Camper-shell, tint, and window "wind guards". Everything else was completely stock.

badass dude, pics too, wow! I'm putting in a 3" toytec lift with coils and bilsteins, Do your tires rub at all, do any trim or mods? I have 18" and doing the tire size conversion that's a big tire and how do you like the Falkens? Sweet rig in prob my fav color, nice job

 

Got a question about your grill. Is that the OEM grill or replacement? I have the exact same truck and need to replace my grill. I also dig your lighting situation with the lights behind the grill. Any info on them would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you sir! That Toytec lift should be a great all round kit. My tires are the equivalent to a 34" tire so without any modifications for fitment it would have been rub city. So I took the standard steps you'll see a lot of other members took to fit this size or even 33's. Cab Mount Chop (Had a shop do this), lots of initial trimming, removed mudflaps, and of course the SPC UCA's help with proper alignment. Even after all of that...still had rubbing issues when turning especially when tires compressed into wheel well. So after, I decided to remove the inner fender liners, remove fender flares, and take 2" out of the fenders with a dremmel. Still have rubbing issues.. Turns out my ball joints were shot and none of my alignments have held.. Just installed new Dirt King LCAs to remedy that issue and the truck is actually getting an alignment right now as I type this. Now I will have adjust-ability on the lower and upper control arms, so fingers crossed the issue will be resolved.

Long story short, if you really want to go big on the tires prepare for the snow ball that comes with it. If you don't wheel hard or often then you probably won't have to do as much as I did.

As for the lights behind the grille, there are a few vendors that sell a bracket. There are also a lot of members that made their own brackets which is what I did. Here is a thread with some good examples:

Pretty much everything else I already had or could find at my work. For example, 18awg wire, misc nuts/bolts, (8) position terminal strip.

I did have to buy a hydraulic lug crimpper from Harbor-freight. I am using 18awg for all my small wires.
