Hi all - brand new to the forum and to the Tacoma line. Purchased my son a used 2013 Tacoma Double Cab Pre-Runner. He loves it. I'd like to add a backup camera to it. I've done a lot of research, but still have some questions. They are:

    1) I attached a couple of pics. I took the cover off the tailgate and "it looks" like the wiring harness for the camera is already there, but no camera exists. Can you help me confirm?

    Here are the images:

    a) This is the tailgate handle. No lock and a place for a camera, but no camera.

    b) You can see what *I THINK* is the wiring harness for a backup camera. Can you confirm?

    c) Another view of the harness:

    d) The harness comes under the truck and to the passenger side of the spare and connects into what appears to be a harness that goes to the front of the truck:

    2) I just noticed there is no lock on the tailgate. My son plays sports and will be keeping his golf clubs and baseball stuff in the back. I thought maybe locking the vehicle would lock it, but it doesn't, so I think I need to purchase a new Pop and Lock handle that includes a camera. Would it be something like this?

Thank you in advance. Appreciate the help.
    Tony

Look up an install thread or YouTube video for a pop and lock with a camera... you should be able to see if thats the same plug that plugs into the camera. I installed a pop and lock in mine with the factory camera and I believe thats the wiring for the camera... nothing else would require wiring in the handle. I know my camera wiring was routed that way because i followed it to wire in the pop/lock to my factory remote unlock.

I believe the 2009-newer came with backup cameras or as an option so yes, you are prewired for one. Check under the headliner(don't remove) at the rearview mirror for the wiring connector for the mirror.
