Maybe this will get more exposure here.

Alright all. I am in the process of upgrading the stock tweeters and speakers in the front doors.

I understand how the tweeters and front speakers are wired. The 4 pin plug to the tweeter simply combines like colors to run the tweeter in parallel connection with the main speaker.

What i DO NOT get is the coloring. On the tweeter side its "standard" red and black. You would assume its + for red, and - for black. but that seems to be the opposite.

The coloring on the harness side is Green and blue. Everything (including toyota factory service manuals) state that Green is POSITIVE, and blue is NEGATIVE (for the front right door) But look at the picture below, the red and blacks are flip flopped!!!! That is the green (positive on the harness side) goes to black, and blue (Negative on the harness side) goes to red.

    W T F.

I have not moved any pins on the plug changed the configuration of how the wires were connected together. I simply chopped off the tweeter and crimped on connectors for my new ones.

I am just wondering if the colors on the tweeter side of the factory front door tweeters are backwards!

My prints from the field service manual says that Green is positive and Lavender is negative in the passenger door regardless of the model. And Pink is positive and Violet is Negative for the driver door on the Double Cab and Green is positive and Lavender is negative on the Access Cab.

yeah i ended up disregarding the colors on the tweeter side of the stock harness and did the positive of the new tweeters to the positive (green and pink on right n left doors)

Trying to figure out exactly what you did here? I get what you were looking for in the colors but why? Did you tap into existing wiring to add aftermarket? Im trying to add the subaru kicker tweeters into second gen. Its not plug n play like the third gens. Ideally if i could get a male plug for a taco, 4runner or subaru i could just splice it in now that i know the colors.

pull the stock tweeter off the truck. Note the positve and negative colors of the wires left on the door harness that go to the tweeter plug and main speaker plug. Now note how on the tweeter side of the plug the positive wire that goes to the main speaker is actually the black (or negative) for the tweeter. Chop that plug off the stock tweeter with some extra so you can wire in your aftermarket tweeter, but disregard the general idea that black is negative and red is positive as its backwards in reference to the door harness and main speaker. (they flip it like this with the stock tweeter to create a larger sound space)

The plug is integrated and soldered to the tweeter. I literally need a factory male plug from a tacoma, 4 runner or subaru. But i understand now what was happening in this thread lol. Thanks. If you hear that anyone cut out their male harness from 2016+ taco point them my way i need 2.

Ah, the plug of the subaru tweeter is integrated into it? Good luck.

Just do what i did grab some of these

    https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-T...id=1549555656&sr=8-2&keywords=pioneer+tweeter

and use the plug off the original tweeter to plug into the harness.

Lol, when I installed my Skar tweets, I just snipped and wired to what was there. I gave no fucks and it miraculously turned out perfectly.

The Tweeter wiring is backwards because the capacitor that is the crossover for the tweeter inverts the signal. Positive in, negative out. The wiring is reversed so that all driver's are moving in the same direction with the music input.
