Hi Everyone! Welcome to the 2ND GEN TOYOTA TACOMA (2005-2011) & (2012-2015) POWER TAILGATE LOCK Information and Ordering Thread. I originally was one of those that spliced into my factory wiring, but I found a new love for Plug-N-Play Harnesses. They just make your life so much easier when it comes to cleaning up your wiring. It not only makes for a professional installation, it is extremely easy to connect and disconnect whenever necessary.

Let me introduce myself for those of you that may not know of me. I own a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and I am a regular on the 3rd Gen Toyota TacomaWorld Forum. To keep a long story short, I have been developing Plug-N-Play mods for quite some time now for the 3rd Gen Trucks and I have been asked to convert them to the 2nd Gen Trucks, as well as for the 2nd & 3rd Gen Tundra's. I do not have a 2nd Gen Tacoma, so I will definitely need some assistance along the way at times, but I think I’m off to a good start.

TAILGATE LOCK BY KTJO 4x4



PURPOSE:

Fully integrated into the 2nd Gen Toyota Tacoma OEM Factory Key Fob. Automatically locks and secure your bed items when your vehicle is locked preventing any tailgate theft. Automatically unlocks bed on your return when vehicle is unlocked – no extra steps needed.

PRODUCT DETAIL:

This Kit adds Remote Lock/Unlock functionality to the Tacoma Tailgate by installing an actuator inside the tailgate and using the provided Plug-N-Play Harness to plug into the factory wiring. There is no need to Splice/Tap into your Trucks OEM Wire Harness. This New Harness is made with all brand new material including OEM Connectors, Terminals, and Wiring to go with your Trucks Wire Harness located on the 2nd Gen Tacoma on the Passenger Side in the Kick Panel Area. The purpose of this harness is to allow you to Lock/Unlock your Tailgate with your Key Fob. You are still able to use your key in your Tailgate, but this alleviates the need for your Key and makes it more convenient for your use.

REQUIREMENTS:

Due to our Plug-N-Play Wiring Harness, you no longer are REQUIRED to tap into your Lock and Unlock factory Wires. This Kit & Wiring is 100% Plug-N-Play.

KTJO 4x4 is currently in the process of manufacturing an Aftermarket OEM Tailgate Handle for the 2nd Gen Toyota Tacoma to be able to offer a Bolt-N-Lock Bracket & Rod option. Therefore, you will no longer be required to drill 2 small holes to mount the actuator in the Tailgate. The New BNL Bracket & Rod will Bolt on directly to the OEM Backup Camera and/or Tailgate Handle once it is manufactured.

For the time being, you are REQUIRED to drill 2 small holes to mount the actuator in the Tailgate of your 2nd Gen Tacoma. Once the Bolt-N-Lock Bracket & Rod is released, you will be able to upgrade your system.

so the $95 kit it all you need? Seems like mainly running the line from the tailgate to the door and installing actuators? I have a pop an lock I picked up but did see your 3rd gen version and thought about see if it would work. Having a 2nd gen is even better.

 

Yes. That is correct! All for $95. Take a look at my personal install that I attached a link to above. I literally walk you through the whole process from start to finish. It’s very detailed. Now, obviously it is a 3rd Gen Truck and you will have to forgive me if there are slight differences between the two, but I can’t imagine that many with how the install will be between the two trucks.

The process of the install is probably going to be one of the easiest you’ll ever have to do. Once I am able to make the BNL, it will literally be a PNP from start to finish. You bolt the Bracket and Actuator in the Tailgate, Connect the Integrated Harness inside the Tailgate, Run the Harness along the Passenger Side of the Truck and through the Grommet under the Passenger Front Seat Area, then Run the Harness to the Passenger Kick Panel, and that is where you will Connect your Integrated Harness to your PNP Harness. Your PNP Harness will replace your OEM IK4 Harness and then your OEM IK4 Harness will plug directly into the female Connector on the PNP Harness. DONE!

 

Makes sense. I have to much stuff running back and forth already so if this helps make some part of it easier I am game. too many other projects that I need to focus time on. Looks like a clean setup. These ready to go now?

 

No. I’ve been getting hit by some 2nd Gens that have been asking me for some time now when am I going to convert my kit for the 2nd Gen people. So....I finally had some time and with the help of @caribe makaira, I was able to get your OEM Connectors that I would need to be able to convert my PNP Harness to make my Kit work. Now the only thing left for me to do is make the BNL for your Tailgate. Then this Kit is good to go. I created this thread to gather the interest level from the 2nd Gen Group. It would be nice to get a list of 100 interested before I place the order of 300 PNP Harnesses. Through my vendor, I have a minimum of 300 I would have to order. The great thing about these PNP Harnesses is that you can use them with other kits. For example, Pop-N-Lock. Unfortunately, for the price of their Kits, they have you tap into your Factory Wires. Well, not anymore. You can purchase my PNP Harness for $45 and attach it to their harness and not have to tap into your wires. Now I would suggest saving money and now buying their Kit, but this is if you already have purchased their kit and are out the money. A lot of 3rd Gen people bought my Kit and then just sold their Pop-N-Lock Kit and got their money Back.

UPDATE:

If you own a 2nd Gen Toyota Tacoma, you can order my current Kit now. When you place your order, you will need to state 2nd Gen so I just Switch the Pin Locations for you but minor detail. That’s easy!!!

I just need to finalize the Tailgate Handle otherwise you will have to do the Drill two hole install for a bit until that gets solved like the 3rd Gens has to do at the beginning of this process.

 

Probably won't work for a base reg cab, which has no options like power windows, power locks, fog lights, cruise, interval wipers, etc.

 

I’m interested but will wait for you to move beyond the R&D phase.
