I got this idea from another thread by @G.T. , but didn’t want to threadjack. Here’s how to give your backseat passengers some added sun blockage:

Source some FJ Cruiser visors (as of 6/19, running $35-$45 ea. Online)
"Genuine Toyota Side Sun Visor Right & Left With Washer Bolt Set"

    1 x 74303-35020-B0
    1 x 74304-35020-B0
    4 X 91666-60635

    Follow these easy steps:

    1. Grab 10mm socket (good luck finding it!). Make note of Left side unit and Right side unit (important later!):

    2. Flip down the bolt cover on the rear grab handles:

3: remove handles and set to the side:

4: unwrap visors, flip over, cut alignment tabs off like so:

5: swap out old bolts for new, longer bolts:

6: Set handle on top of visor and drop new bolts through both pieces:

7: be sure to put Left side unit on right side, and right visor on left side (reversed to follow roof contour, with flattest edge facing forward).

8: Repeat for other side and crack open a cold one. (Left seat pictured for reference)

Yes, if you reverse them, they go nearly flush with the roof.

Very nice write up. Any idea if this will work on a 3rd gen?

Good job! I did this awhile back. It was a nice add especially for the kids in the back. Its been removed now as I have a molle panel but may see if I can swap it back on.

Def need to swap left and right if you want to get it to go flush or near flush.

You'd have to see if the rear handle mounts are the same as 2nd gen.

I've thought about setting up some type of ceiling molle system but I imagine my kids would try to do chin-ups and just yank it down. I recently put some molle panels on my center console from Victory: https://www.victory4x4.com/product/VTCC.html

it would be pretty hard for them to get their hands around the ceiling one plus its bolted into the same as the grab handles. You can get Meso's handle kit if you are on a 2nd or 3rd gen to add the handle back (does require the use of 3rd gen handles). Also nice because they fold out of the way.

Good question! I did not initially consider this. After looking at the setup as well as the owner's manual SRS location, it appears the side airbags deploy from the B-Pillar area. The visors are flush to the ceiling when not deployed. In the event of an SRS deployment and the visors were in a "down" position, there could be some concern regarding trajectory.
