Had sedans before this and the truck has been a different ride as expected. So new tires from discount tire (stock size for OR) and I will get wheel and seat vibrations at 70ish mph. Since it is an inconsistent level of shake it leads me to think it is the road. It will happen on some sections of road and not on others. Thoughts from anyone with more experience? Much appreciated

Could be the road. Drive some other roads and find out

When I drove mine off the lot new, it had some shakes. I thought about taking it back to get re-balanced, but gave it 500 miles and sure enough the tires settled in. No more shakes.

Maybe give it some time to settle in?

Discount Tire is a hack, go to a local mechanic that's been around for decades and they will probably tell you that DT has your wheels poorly balanced. That's my experience with them, wheel weights uneven when I bought new tires from them. I got vibration at highway speed but I would say that its possible it was at slower speeds and didn't feel as noticeable.

Local mechanic balanced my tires correctly and now I'm good to go. Good luck solving your vibration problems.

My experience is the opposite, local mechanics and actual mechanic shops kept messing up my tires, went to Discount Tire and they fixed for free with no hassle. Been a customer with them for 10 years now through around seven full tire sets (plus other flat fix/tire air up interactions) and have nothing but positive things to say about them. Though I have met people who have had a horrible experience, just the luck of the cards and what technician you get I guess for any shop.

To the OPs point, I would imagine if it inconsistent that it is more likely the road. That being said, it could be a combination. Until I got the tires on my old Ram rebalanced (and eventually replaced) certain roads would activate its death wobble/shaking.

Thanks everyone. The Ohio roads are crap so it is kinda hard to get a good stretch. Wen on a very extended off ramp that doesn't see high traffic levels and it felt relatively smooth. I think seeing how it goes over the next few hundred miles would be a good idea rather than taking it in right away.

Not my experience at all!! I've used them for years for everything from my Porsche to my Taco's and NEVER had a bad experience.

OP, if it comes and goes on different roads, it might just be the roads.

What type of new tires? Brand Model would be good info to provide.

Just to add. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences from Discount Tire.

I would talk to the manger and have him check rebalance for free of course.

And as with getting new tires did you get an alignment?

Now if it happens at certain speed I’d say balance. If it’s certain sections of a road then it’s the road. Specially if it’s the same section.

I did not get an alignment, truck has always tracked well. I think I had some of the intermittent vibrations on the last tires. Yes it seems like certain sections, I can have some vibrations at say 65 or 73, then hit a section of road I know doesn't give me issues and it goes away. Tough to tell given I don't remember how the truck drove off the lot when I first got it and the fact that I came from VW sedans before this that either drove butter smooth or an out of balance tire was obvious

I live in central Ohio and my truck absolutely hates some roads. I have no problem in most areas, but 23 and my truck just don't jive. I also have wildpeaks and came from a VW lol. You have my sympathies.

It's the technician not the Store. Every business can be cursed with an incompetent or lazy tech. DC has some of the best equipment around, and as others have said, in dealing with them for 20+ years I've never been let down.

Check this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/falken-wildpeak-at3w-265-75-r16.525672/page-30 It seems like a of common issue with this tire. Looks like you may have either have a balance issue or an out of round tire/s.

I have the same tire and felt shaking of the wheel after Toyota services my vehicle. Took it to discount tire and all four of my wheels needed to be rebalanced.

Roads are bad here too but vibration is pretty easy to pin as bad balance if your ass feels like it's getting shaken in the seat. A local store aptly known as "Crappy Tire" had all of my wheels off balance by give or take 3-5oz and the shaking in my seat and wheel was super strong. Local, trustworthy shop balanced each wheel properly for $10 a piece. Dealerships and designated tire centers wanted anywhere from 20-40 bucks each wheel. It takes 5 minutes to take a wheel off, balance, put it back on and torque it and a good shop knows that so they won't charge you out the ass.
