The big deal for me is connecting to the stock cat flanges. Getting a balanced Y pipe there while killing the stupid crossover would be neato.

Ugh! Nevermind. I keep forgetting that the left secondary cat pipe is the pipe that crosses over. Sorry.

I need to burn this into my mind:

Roostfactor does one job at a time, he's not a shop
take a look at some of this. there's a lot of info and reports about his work on 2g's.

correct, that's part of it. he's fully concerned with things like resonance and wave congestion affecting performance negatively. that's why I'm after him. performance-wise I'm an efficiency nut. my exhaust currently is pretty amazing, but the URD Y has some crud going on, no doubt. because of that, i have two Vibrant Ultra Quiet 3" resonators in series on my mid pipe. that's just plain inefficient. the performance is great relatively and a light year beyond stock, but there's is more to find. basically I'm going for all the NA i can get out of this thing, and I'm already happy with what i have... but more is more, right? I'm trying to stay NA for driveability. the SCs & TTs are getting my attention but i won't bite on those if even 1% driveability is lost under 2k.

After three HP turbos between us over the last 20yrs and only having to mess with them a bit, I really don't see any driveability issues happening in the bottom end, esp with a Stage 1 SC or a 7psi turbo setup. The 3.5l is a much larger engine than I am used to, but an SC is just going to be on at the bottom end and a LP turbo will spool like a turbo diesel.

All that said, a proper set of pipes esp with the right sounds coming out would be sweet.

and this is why I'm watching. but in this rare case I'm choosing to not be an early adopter. it's on the table though!

    There you go. Same here.

As a turbo guy (obviously), I am looking at the Stage 1 SC wayy down the road. Like, post warranty and post one of the demon spawns out of school.

I love hearing turbos spool and blow, but the SC seems right for this application.

How would I tune my truck to get the most out of the dump pipes?

I got you on valve dimensions just to check. This is straight from Toyota via AllData btw..

Thank you @St.Germain for sharing and spearheading the info gathering.

And thank you to others for supplying this info and for the complements!

If y'all read my first post in my thread, you will know my history. I designed/fabricated my first y-pipe because there was nothing available that could take advantage of scavenging exhaust pulses (what a waste).
So I bought TIG, a bunch of mandrel tubing, band saw, belt sander, software, etc, and went to town.
Some posts of what I did made it to Tacomaworld and here I am with a backlog of 2nd gen and now interest from 3rd gen folks.

If you look at the recent posts in my thread you can see I still work out of my cramped 2 car garage and this is more like a hobby to me than anything.

I am not a business, just a guy with interest in all things mechanical (retired Air Force aircraft mech) and a desire to not only improve my skillset, but to help others along the way!
Once again, I am not a business! I dont have a waiting room or a shop. There is no warranty or website. Just me improving my skillset and knowledge while you pay for my materials and time (each y-pipe takes about 3 days to make). In turn I fabricate the best product I can with no time limit on how long it takes me.
I dont rush, I build each one like it's for my truck. How could I improve my skillset if I wasnt always aiming for improvement?

I have asked for all of the engine specs because that will determine the tuned y-pipe length. The idea is to create a negative pressure wave (vacuum) at the exhaust valve prior to it closing to help pull spent gasses out of the cylinder so the piston is not working as hard (parasitic loss) pushing it out. This negative wave can also have a positive effect on intake fill as the negative wave (if timed correctly) can help pull in the fresh charge during valve overlap.
Since y'all have dvvti, integrated collector, AND Atkinson magic going on as well as the inherent limitation of exhaust tuning benefiting certain rpm ranges (not all), there can be no design that is optimal for all operating conditions.

So what I will do is take all of the data you so graciously gave me and estimate or average the correct length. This theoretically will provide the most benefit over the largest engine operating range.

One 3rd gen guy approached me about 10 months ago and I agreed to bld a custom equal length y-pipe for him (1st), then @St.Germain recently contacted me for another one (2nd). These are the ONLY two 3rd gens I will be doing at this time since they will both be full custom fit units and I wont even have a chance to build a jig with those builds.
I have a buddy locally with a 3rd gen that I can borrow to build a jig later on if the first 2 are sucessful but I currently have more work than I can handle with the 2nd gen crowd.

So I respectfully request others here not to PM me about availability until 1. we know it works well, and 2. I have time to dedicate to this platform.

@St.Germain and the other fellow (you know who you are) are free to post whatever you want and answer questions as long as its understood that for now this is a (one off) project with no current plans for production.

Bottom line is let's see how these things work before we get ahead of ourselves. Even then it would be probably 6 months at least before I'll be ready to take an order.

    Thanks all!

    Roost

Is there an anticipated launch date for 2.0, or is still in the development phase?

After what I've seen from a lot of people in the main OVT thread, if you start accepting orders they'll deliberately ignore this disclaimer/info and bitch about you not matching or beating Amazon Prime shipping times lol
