What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Just the most basic of maintenance on mine today. Oil change, Mobile 1 synthetic, filter, OEM D3, grease all the shafts, new air filter. Oh, and even treated her to a new drain plug gasket!! Tomorrow I am planning to make a sun shield for my winch. I notice a distinct fading on the exposed synthetic winch line. I am guessing those areas would be the first to fail. So going to cut and bend some aluminum flashing to cover it.

My injectors are finally due to arrive today. Truck has been down for 5 weeks waiting for them.

 

That compressor is only rated for 5.9 SCM when it needs 7 to blast from bucket though no? But the ones you posted looks fine since they are hopper style.

 

I wouldn't risk it since they stretch.

 

Going to get new ones. Ordering parts this weekend. Damn bolts cost $6 each

Thoughts on this? currently open/open for my diffs. bad idea to only have an autolocker in the front and rear open?

 

Haven't seen the video before but if we're talking lunchbox lockers and you drive your truck on the street then I don't recommend it but to each their own. Selectable lockers are the way to go IMO, auto lockers for a dedicated trail rig sure.

 

Seeing no sliders gives me anxiety.

Anyone know if the cold climate spec windshield molding will cover over these paint chips? I'm moving to the east coast and wanted to switch the old thin one out anyways. If not, is there an alternative molding i can put in place to cover where the paint ends? Thanks

Not in a manual trans that you drive on the street you don't lol. In the rear anyway. You have manual hubs though right? From what I've read it's better to put auto lockers on IFS front ends if you have manual hubs but don't quote me on that.

 

I have an Aussie locker in the front of my truck. Those saying don't put them in a street rig are ignorant. You won't notice at all in 2wd. If you can't drive in snow without 4x4 maybe it's not for you. Being locked in the snow the truck will tend to understeer.

I added a switch to unlock the passenger axle making it easier to turn. This will cause quite a bit of torque steer. I'm used to it but some may find it annoying. I think the ratcheting is an advantage in saving CVs when you are turning. I personally think having a front locker is better than a rear if you had to choose one. In my experience from following others with the rear locked it seems to be easier. I do have the advantage of possibly seeing a better line choice.

I've had more issues with my rear air locker than I have the Aussie. I did think my Aussie locker was starting to ratchet almost all the time but it ended up being the tcase chain slipping. Likely from not changing the fluid after swamping the truck.

I don't recommend any locker if you have manual hubs. The axles are too weak.

 

I'm not recommending he not do it out of ignorance, I had one in a previous truck (rear). Different strokes maybe but the street mannerisms weren't something I'd want to have again when a selectable option makes it a non-issue.
