What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

When I had an Aussie locker in my old 4Runner I would get the stink eye driving in the parking lot cause it sounded like I broke something.

 

I didn't know there was a significant difference between ADD axles and manual hub axles. I'd like a front locker at some point and was considering an automatic since I have manual hubs.
How much weaker are we talking?

 

I remember the 'clack clack clack clack' around corners usually turned heads

 

I wouldn't recommend one in the rear for street use. It's unnoticeable in the front on the street though.

6mm smaller on the spindle side the rest of the axle is the same.

 

When I had my Jeep TJ, I had a Detroit locker in the rear and a Lock Right in the front with no manual hubs. I loved it in mud and on the rocks, but living up north it was horrible on hard packed snow.
I swapped an E-Locker into my old Hilux and had a Spartan in the front with manual hubs. I had the same results with hard packed snow, not good to be locked front and rear in that environment.
Than being said, if I was to do it all again, I would go with a selectable locker front and rear.

Yep. Explains why the siphon pickup style that I have for the blasting cabinet really doesn't work. I may sell the blasting cabinet or donate it to charity. It's just taking up space in the garage that I don't have today.

 

I drove my truck today, ran good!!

 

No molding is going to fix that. Your truck has been aftermarket repair painted with the windshield in place. Hell, you can see the overspray on the molding. A larger molding will cover it, but the paint will continue to flake off. The only way to prevent it is to remove the windshield/molding and prep/paint the area.

 

Well, I thoroughly destroyed that rear axle seal removing it.



Things are going well, if slowly, otherwise. Second side should be much quicker I'd imagine.

 

Received my long awaited injectors. They were surprisingly pretty clean when comparing before and after.

Before, right after removing from the motor and just a wipe down.


After they were rebuilt. Haven't even taken them out of the bags yet.




And finally the spec sheet showing before in GRAY and after clean/rebuild in WHITE. I'm impressed since they have 324k miles on them.


Probably won't see any difference on the truck but it's good to know they are fresh again. Might start putting them back in tonight. Truck will be running again this weekend for sure.

Hehe, marginal is a very polite way of putting it.

 

Yeah, got it done while I was at school, so I was only driving 1 or 2 times a week. Pisses me off now but Had initially got it done because of body rust. If anything it'll make for a nice primer the second time around, Truck is still young and in good condition (145k miles). Just gotta save up and do it right. Definitely will spend the extra money to have all the trim removed now that I can afford it.

 

That's how every job goes. I've done that job three times now, and could probably do it in a couple hours now.

Just curious why have the sealed failed that many times besides the obvious vent valve getting stuck closed

found out today there is a 'source' out there that has my cloth material leftover from factory so I can do something with my seat situation
that t4r i checked out earlier is not gonna work and left me very very frustrated
looked like it was flooded because the underbelly of that seat was a crusted rusty heck of a mess, some kids probably ditched it in a pond in Kansas and salvage yard picked it up

 

The seal is the easiest part too haha. Hardest part about the seal is making sure you don’t nick the inner axle tube and never knowing if it’s fully and evenly seated. The worst part of the job is setting the collar that rides on the seal.

 

When I replaced my axle shafts I used it as an excuse to buy a

$135 OTC 4579 9-Way Slide Hammer Puller Set , Black

slide hammer kit. The slide and the three jaw attachment popped the seals out perfectly. Waaaaay better than the cheesy seal pullers with the handle.
