Truth. Imagine if the OP does a regear and starts running his rig at higher RPMs - I would highly recommend synthetic for this.

For starters the tundra is a dinosaur in the full size market and gets horrible mpg's. The other companies full sizes get equal or better then a 2nd gen tacoma.

If you want the power, you need to pay for it. Whether its with expensive mods now, or by having a bigger more powerful truck it costs $.

Personally i'd rather have a more powerful stock truck that was designed to all work together, then making the smaller truck more high strung and doing your own r&d to get it right.

Yeah i'm talking about staying away from tiny mods that will yield barely anything but spending the same amount of money on doing bigger changes like S/C or Gears.

This. The amount of money I've spent on stupid little bolt ons I could of saved a few more pennies and got a s/c.

Try a pedal commander.... i found a used one here on TW and it is pretty neat ..... improves throttle response, gives the truck a whole new feel....

The tundra was a damn tank that’s for sure! I’m happy with my Tacoma just wish it had more ping to throttle response but than again it’s my first mid size truck and pulling a boat with it as well

After reading all your comments on this issue I have come to terms that it will cost a lot to get this rig to run like a big truck and I just have to remind myself that I bought a mid size truck for a reason and that’s to save on gas vs my 5.7 tundra. Yeah I would like more snap and torque response when pulling the boat around or hill climbing in southern cal trails but for me to get a supercharger or gears I should of just buy a used 4x4 tundra LOL. I’ll just get a k&n filter, new full exhaust, pedal commander and should be placebo happy with it LOL. I Just need to get used to the new rig. Thanks to all for your great knowledgeable feedback.

Strap some horses to the front of your truck. When you want power, snap the reins while yelling at them and pressing the throttle. Should help.

The only real solution is the supercharger. Even then it wont turn tour truck into a hot rod. I had a 2012 and I supercharged it at ~30k miles, it definitely had more pep, but I was expecting more. Sounds badass though. If you plan on keeping the truck longer than 5 years I'd say do it

Look through the HP Tuner thread. Also grab a set of modified exhaust cam gears from @mightytacoman

I stand partially corrected. However, 4hp and 12lb ft of torque isn’t going to be noticeable to most people. So either way, hardly worth burning premium fuel.

I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned this yet. Have you considered adding a couple of new stickers to the Tacoma? Depending on the sticker you could be looking on some huge gains with minimal effort.
