I remember watching her on Extreme 4X4 and then sometimes on Mythbusters back in the day. That's sad news for sure. She was a talent.

I have so many questions about this like:

How is it 'common' for the timing cover to leak? Its not even supposed to have fluid behind it, its just supposed to be a cover, right?
If there is enough fluid behind it to leak, what the hell is leaking? Cam seals? Crank seals? Ive never seen a timing cover leak anything unless a seal was toast.
Am I wrong? Is this motor different? Is there supposed to be fluid behind that cover?
    Those are just beginner questions...

Sooo throwing back to this truck. I saw the post go up on craigslist within the hour it went live and was in contact with the dealer, went to go look at it.....

Turns out this truck was pretty trashed. Plenty of dings and chips in the paint, cracks forming on the sides of the core support, a bunch of sand in the carpet, stained seats etc. Looks like the guy took it for one last 'send' before trading it in.... Ok, not the end of the world. HOWEVER the biggest issue was damage to BOTH rocker panels about mid way under the front doors, both were trashed. All dented in. Still, with over $10k in LT parts (note that rear hydro bumps and front bypasses, front limit straps, and front TRD skid were all removed, you can find them on CL still) alone it could be a good deal if the dealer would negotiate down from the $34xxx.

Now when I went to look at it last weekend this thing was still dirty as hell. Just like it had been received on trade it, not cleaned up whatsoever. Weird that it was posted online for sale when they hadn't touched it yet. Salesman says that the truck hadn't been gone through yet and I couldnt test drive as the mechanics hadn't looked at it blah blah blah. Well I got him to at least let me drive it around the back of the dealer lot- drove and shifted fine. So I told him to call me after the mechanic looked at it this week and I could test drive it longer on the road at speed etc.

So yesterday he calls me back...... Mechanic says "Truck is un-sellable" and "Not safe for sale due to shoddy work"
So I ask about a full release of liability cash deal, hold them harmless etc. Says he'll check and call back. Well that too was a No go. Manager wouldn't let that happen, truck has to go to auction. So theres going to be a LT 3rd gen 6 speed manual at auction somewhere soon.

I don't particualarly think there was any ghetto fab or shoddy work, just a fairly highly modified truck that they didn't have a clue about and didn't want to deal with.
Bet both the dude that traded it in and the dealer that took it on trade got absolutely boned on that deal now. :notsure:

Damn I didn’t even think about checking CL for the other shocks and what not. They sent me some pics and I noticed the rockers were pretty destroyed. Unless that dude totally sent it and tried to repair I wouldn’t think it’s shoddy work, Nates did all the install of that stuff. Crazy how much money both of them ate on that deal. Wonder what kind of siq VW the previous owner got

Well if they commonly leak then its a common problem. So yeah. The timing cover generally seals the front of the engine unless running a belt. There is absolutely oil behind it. Which means its either leaking past a gasket or fipg. Same thing either way.

I’m gonna guess a GTI with like $10k of negative equity rolled over from the Tacoma lol.

Anyone going out this weekend? Looks like it will be a little cooler. I’m heading out to the Austin area to fuck around for a few days.

I’m gonna hit up a few springs off 50 but I think they’ll all be pretty busy.

Everyone go to Spencer this weekend! It’s the best hot spring in Nevada and it’s not worth going to any other ones. :D

Anyone been out to Carson River Hot Springs lately? Some friends were going to head out this weekend but Im not going to be off in time to join the convoy - Im still new to wheeling and was wondering if the road was too gnarly to attempt by myself or if i should just fuck it and huck it? I understand coming from 395 side hits the river which may be hard to pass, but i think the convoy is heading there via Markleeville/89. I apologize up front if ive shared to much info on the springs - lemme know and i can delete/edit.

I keep running into these situations where I want to wheel, but a bit intimidated to do anything other than a fire road by myself (ie DogValley). :)

River is crossable with a stock Tacoma right now.

Is Barney Riley even open (89)? Last time I was up that way the trail was blocked off and closed.

The trail down from 395 is rough but easily doable in a stock Tacoma. It’s slow going and your back will need the soak when you get to the hot springs.

Do you have the route in? I have a track mapped in Gaia both from the Leviathan and China springs entrances off 395. PM me if you have Gaia and would like the track.
