here we go again - hill assist is a great feature which prevents hacks like using the handbrake. i mean there's a manual way to open the slider, its called your hand, but the power feature is much nicer

Yep, and hill assist uses all 4 brakes at each wheel instead of just the rear 2 drum brakes. Some reported bending/warping the rear brake shoes from overusing the handbrake in offroad situations.

The clutch has a long throw, but it’s adjustable (somehow).

IMO, trucks with a smaller engine like this need a manual so you can TELL them what to do rather than ASKING them what to do

MT uses an H key, just press unlock. Best of both worlds imo:

Just reverse sucks when backing a trailer. I went 982 mph in reverse in my Tacoma once. Still had some left.

IMO the main issues is a too tall reverse ratio and a large 1-2 gear spacing.
The RPM drop shifting from 1st to 2nd is about 1/2.... Rev to 4000 rpm in 1st, then you hit second at only around 2000. Puts a big damper on acceleration having it sit that low in the RPM after the gear change.

Those issues aside- still better than the AT, IMO

Hill assist is a useless feature, designed to solve a non-existent problem.

Or you can look at it this way - it is designed so that you don't have to go through the hardship of learning to drive your car.

Are you guys 100% SURE the late 2019 MT Tacoma doesn't have have hill assist DESPITE what the owner's manual says?

Here's why I ask. I used to have a 2014 WRX with hill assist. It didn't bug me, never really needed it......but it was there (but nice there was a switch to turn off). So I know how it felt. 2019 LB Sport Going to test again to confirm, but I was on a hill yesterday. Dead stop. Pushed clutch pedal in. Truck did NOT roll back. Hmmmmmmm...................
