This harness is a plug and play solution that allows you to engage low range in 2 wheel drive on your 4x4 3rd Gen Tacoma. Big thanks and credit to @BigWhiteTRD for developing this mod.

In stock and ready to ship!

Harnesses are in stock and available for order and immediate shipping on my square site. (Link Below)

    What you get:
The kit consists of a custom made harness using OEM quality connectors, and a relay. The relay is an industrial quality IDEC 4PDT relay that is mounted in a socket. The relay is easily replaceable should it ever fail. It is a standard relay that is cheap and easy to obtain. Also in the package are ~10 zip ties for making everything neat and tidy. A switch is not included in the kit.

The wire for the switch is 8 feet long with a connector that is compatible with at least two aftermarket switches that are available from www.ch4x4.com and www.aironboard.com. Other switches may work with the plug configuration provided. If you are not sure please PM me for confirmation. You may also cut off the plug and wire your own switch (before you cut off the plug, message me for the wiring info).

Installation will require removal of the glove compartment and some passenger side trim panels. It should take about an hour, maybe two. It is not difficult. I am working on finishing up installation instructions. For now you can use the instructions @BigWhiteTRD wrote up along with my post showing a good way to route the harness. Both links are below.

A great video install video was done by Fred Lino and is available on Youtube, please check out his channel:

@Pyrotech also did a great writeup with pictures on his install.

@daveeasa had made up some fantastic visor inserts with instructions on how to use your newly installed mod. These are great to have for reference, or future owners. They are printed on cardstock and fit the visor pocket perfectly. All future orders will include one, please specify MT or AT when ordering. If you already have your kit, please contact @daveeasa directly. Thanks Dave! These are awesome!

    Place an order:
Payment can be made using a credit or debit card. Please visit my website, select USA/Canada for shipping, and complete your order through Paypal. A Paypal account is not required. If you would like to pay by Check/MO please send me a PM.

    Delivery:
If there are any harnesses available your order will complete normally. If they are sold out, there will be a message when you try to check out that they are not available. USPS Priority mail is 3 days or less within the US and probably a week to Canada. I ship during the week as needed.

**Do not use a knife or razor to open the USPS box. You may cut the wire harness and damage it. I can not take responsibility for wire harnesses that have been damaged in this way. The boxes are perforated and fairly easy to tear open.***

This is a custom product and is currently being manufactured. The lead time I have received from the vendor is 25 days (1 month). It could be sooner, it could be longer if there are delays in sourcing components. It is out of my control. If you would like to place an order now, please understand that you will not receive anything for up to a month, possibly longer. I have received word from the vendor that the harness are complete and I am awaiting shipping confirmation and a tracking number.

If you place your order I only ask that you be patient. If I receive any information regarding delays I will let you know ASAP in this thread. In order to keep the price reasonable the first production run is 100 pieces. If there appears to be more interest after those are sold I can/will arrange for more to be made.

Once I have received the parts from the vendor I will be sending out reminders to anyone in the first batch that has not paid in full. I will ship the first batch of 20 within one week of receiving the parts from the vendor. I will be testing these personally to make sure they are correct before shipping. If I do not have your full payment, your kit will not ship. Once the first batch is complete the second ~25 will get final payment reminders.

    FAQ:
"How does it work?/How do I use it?"
The harness connects between the 4x4 ecu under your dash and the sensors and actuators in the transfer case and front axle. It selectively interrupts, or connects the signals as required to trick the ecu into thinking the front axle disconnect is engaged. When the relay is de-energized (switch off), the truck will operate as stock. Any functions that were available in 4L are also available in 2L.

    To engage 2Lo:
    1. Press your 2low button. You will hear the relay click.
    2. Shift the 4x4 selector to "4H" as you normally would.
    3. Shift the 4x4 selector to "4L" as you normally would.
*That's it. You are in 2WD Low Range.*

    To disengage:
    1. Press your 2low button to turn it off. You will hear the relay click again.
    2. Shift the 4x4 selector back to "4H".
    3. Shift the 4x4 selector back to "2WD"
*You are now back in 2WD high range*

If you get an error on your dash, DONT PANIC! It may say something like "4x4 system error". Chances are, you got the sequence wrong and the ECU saw sensor positions it thought were abnormal. Turn off the 2low swithc and your truck, wait 10s and try again.

“Why would I ever need this?”
If you are a MT driver especially, you know how tall the reverse gearing is in our trucks. If you frequently tow, put any significant weight in your bed, have a lift with tall tires, or a ton of armor, you know how difficult reversing up an incline can be. The tall reverse gearing requires feathering the clutch in order to maintain low speed causing premature clutch wear.

Even if you have an AT, this mod will allow you to reverse at low speed without a ton of torque converter slip. This means you aren’t heating up your transmission.

    “Why wouldn’t I just use 4 low?”
Well, you could. The problem is you rarely ever have to drive forward or reverse in a straight line. If you are turning on pavement when in 4 low the tires bind, cause wear and tear, and can possibly cause catastrophic damage. With this mod, your front axle remains disengaged and there will be no binding.

“Why should I pay $110 for this, it seems pretty simple?”
You don’t have to, and it is. If you’re good with electronics you can do this mod in an afternoon easily. If you want to do it yourself check out @BigWhiteTRD s thread here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lock-stock-and-2wheel-low-3rd-gen-diy-mod.536677/

I, personally wanted a custom harness so I didn’t have to cut my stock wiring. This kit is literally plug and play. It requires no cutting, soldering, or splicing. It is easily reversible. The cost, like most everything is in the labor. There are approximately 50 wires, with over 100 crimped terminals, and several soldered connections to be made. In addition each connection is covered in adhesive lined heat shrink to stabilize the joint and prevent corrosion. If I were to do this myself with hand operated tools, it would take me at least 3 hours each to do and the quality and consistency wouldn’t be nearly as good.

    DISCLAIMER:
This wiring harness is a modification to the stock wiring of your vehicle. I accept no responsibility or liability for any damage done during its installation or use. Much testing and planning has gone into the preparation of this wiring harness, however there is always the possibility that there will be issues. If there are problems with the harness itself please contact me immediately so I can take care of it.

Any non-factory modification to your truck *may* void your warranty. Understand that since you are diverting all of the low-range 4WD power to your rear 2 wheels, stress on these components is double what it would typically be. Don't drive like an idiot in 2Low.

By choosing to install this modification, you accept these risks.

Once you fill out the form (I haven't sent you the link yet). I will email payment info. I need to know what you want before I just start accepting random payments.

I realize it seems like an unnecessary step, but keeping things organized at this point will make sure everyone gets what they want.

    Yep!

All it does is trick the 4wd ECU into thinking that the ADD on the front diff is locked. Nothing else.

Check out the linked thread at the bottom of the 1st Post. This is just @BigWhiteTRD 's 2Lo Mod (2LM) but instead of cutting anything, it is fully PnP.

You guys are too quick tonight!
You do realize I'm not paying sales commissions right?

I posted the general order form link in the first post . I was able to figure out how to limit the number of responses so we don't go over 100 total. Everyone in "the list", don't worry, you're spot is still reserved until at least next weekend.

That's pretty much the only thing I needed it for. Backing a trailer into my driveway SUCKED without it!

See that 1st Post again. The one that comes with the cable kit is the standard bright blue. If you want the matching blue, order without the switch and jump over to AOB.com and snag the "new blue" version quick.

BTW, @lapoltba has lit pics in the OP of other thread.

It can be white, that's an option. The default is a blue that is slightly darker than the OEM switches. If you want a blue that is closer to stock, I suggest trying to get the "new blue" from aironboard.com. Availability is hit or miss since they get their switches in 500 piece batches. The 2low switch isn't a big seller.

    Ok let me look

And I looked they don’t have the new Blue in the taller switch. No big deal, I’m not going to have 2WD Low, Compressor and Rear air locker on all the same time, so really doesn’t matter what color they are.

    Is there a typo here,

    To engage 2Lo:
    1. Press your 2low button. You will hear the relay click.
    2. Shift the 4x4 selector to "4H" as you normally would.
    3. Shift the 4x4 selector to "4L?" asyou normally would.

Thanks for the hard work, Ordered it

    Form submitted, can't wait!

Question about the switch, is it only lit up when pressed? Or does it light up with dash lights?

@lapoltba may make his own new documents, but for now I will post up my old ones for people to review. Most of this document describes dashboard disassembly which is still generally applicable I think.

Also, I made a sunvisor quick reference sheet, to take a look at. If anybody has any suggestions on these and wants to improve them, I can provide the word files for editing. Wow I first wrote theses a long time ago...

Just to clarify here.... Since this needed to be PnP and connection to the dash light circuit varies depending on where you want to mount the switch, the text of the switch is always on. Adding a non-cut way to connect to the dash circuit would have added to the complexity and cost.

If you don't mind sending me the Word files I would be extremely grateful. I can modify them for installation of the PnP version.
