I'm trying to figure out if I'm pre-wired for a backup camera on my 2014 base model regular cab. It both looks like I'm pre-wired and that the previous owner did a modification to the tailgate wiring, which I'm guessing was for an aftermarket backup camera system.

Photo 1 is of the passenger side wiring, showing what appears to be 4 wires, which I believe means I'm pre-wired for an OEM reverse camera. Photo 2 shows the wiring modification on the same conduit, just earlier in the circuit and closer to the drivers side, with the red wire intersecting the small black box, and a clipped blue wire hanging loose.

Can someone please confirm that I am pre-wired and does anyone know what the modification shown in photo 2 is?

    Thanks

The black box looks like a fuse holder. Pop the cap off and see. The factory doesn't install fuse holders like that. As for the wires going through the hole in pic 1, the factory doesn't run a wire harness through a sharp metal hole without a rubber grommet to protect the harness.

Ok thanks, so this all looks like aftermarket wiring? Guessing it was for an aftermarket backup camera on a camper shell. Sound right?

Seems like it's out of my depth to correct. Any suggestions or you think its easier to get the shop to take a look?

Go to the Toyota dealership with your VIN and they can give you a print-out of "as built" by Toyota (factory, no dealer add-ons). There are other threads that indicate that back-up camera & wiring was no longer regularly installed in model year 2008. I have an early 2008 & had the camera in the handle, the plug to allow tailgate removal and wiring to the headliner panel. I was able to buy an aftermarket mirror with compass and screen, plug in & **VOILA** You probably should look at a new radio with an integrated back-up cam. The screen in my mirror is really, really small. Good only for the final few inches when backing up to a wall or hitching a trailer. Good luck.
