What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Wasn't much to see on the locks.

I'm pretty sure these locks have been rekeyed before, explains why I can't get my gas door to turn nor the airbag switch

Ordered an AllPro off road Apex front bumper and skid plates for my Taco today ! Cant wait.

 

last day for air compressor rental
going to get back on the safety gear since the humidity went away and sandblast away the spare tire with steel wheel and paint chassis black, wish they woulda equipped me with a spare the same as the alloys i ride on and it may have not gotten so weathered!

there it is, very heavy used
the rental place told me this is a $4k machine, not sure i believe that though

 

i should do a better job, i did not get very far into it, woke up one day not breathing well and sand and glass in my mouth!
but this blaster was extremely effective for getting rid of the defective paint and surface crusty rusty in various spots so that i could acid zinc coat some naked Toyota steel
the salt monster will not turn my truck into this poor one (that is/was (its dead now) only a month older than mine is) if I have anything to say about it!








and I think I have diagnosed that this picture right here below is a very major part of the frame collapse situation
and Toyota motor corp has NO FRIGGN Clue that this is what is happening from my many dealings with the local dealers and 1-800 customer service

 

for everyone in CA, AZ, CO, TX etc. that is how real it gets
and that truck was on the roads here a couple months ago
there was a state patrol tag onit to please remove your vehicle from the road

....

and the thing that makes me most angry and frustrated is that i do not recall getting any kind of official notice about 10 years ago that this problem was developing in certain parts of the country and that I should look into better proper frame maintenance than I already had been doing.
Toyota says that my state and surrounding states do not have a problem, the closest state that does is Minnesota.
I had the most hellish time in early 2o11 to get the local dealer to check mine when I first learned from another Tacoma guy in Indiana via a paltalk chat room that his Tacoma failed and needed a new frame (early 2000 model iirc)
and the dealers here are still clueless i think about how this progresses and how to properly stop and/or limit it!

Yea I'm gonna do a build thread. Just haven't got around to it. I promise I'll do it when I get back from Kings Canyon. I spend too much time reading about everyone else's build I need to put my own up.

 

Kings Canyon is amazing, was up there earlier this year just after they opened up the highway in the spring. We were going to camp right alongside the river at the bottom but it was roaring so loud we ended up moving camp further into the forested area. Lot of little fire roads off Kings Canyon highway that lead to some pretty cool dispersed camping areas.

 

So I installed my new master cylinder and stainless lines and for some reason the pedal is pretty soft and it doesn't exactly stop on a dime, its not awful but I think its a downgrade from before honestly, is it possible the new master cylinder is lower quality or is there another issue? There is no air in the lines. Im thinking maybe something to do with the brake booster? Theres a weird sloshing noise when pressing the brake coming from the brake booster/MC area that I don't think Ive heard before, maybe brake fluid got into the booster when the seals in the MC failed?

 

Just keep bleedin'. Do it every night for a week, 6 pumps per brake atleast. Its how I got my pedal rock hard.

Read about this is another thread today and the consensus was to bench bleed the master cylinder followed by bleeding all 4 corners.

Bench bleeding usually involves taking the MC off but I've read you can do it while it's on the truck, never done it myself though.

 

I would just bleed all 4 and the load valve every night for a week before I would tear the MC back off. Its what I do after every brake job Ive done.

 

I remember you had an issue awhile back I think where you had to bleed the brakes a bunch before the pedal firmness returned to normal.

 

Yup. Just had to keep bleeding. Now my pedal is almost too hard. Anytime someone else drives, our heads about go through the windshield when they go to stop at first. Takes hardly any pedal travel to stop and not much more to engage abs. I imagine part of that is from Ceramic pads and a real tight adjustment in the back.
