Fog lights, on without headlights mod?

Would like to be able to use my fog/driving lights without the headlights being on. Figured I would ask first, before digging into the switches/relays/etc. Didn't find anything in search.

There is still a better way to do it, no cutting, no splicing. Also doing it that way has no fuse protection.

 

your right, you can take apart the fuse block and do it that way so you dont see anything. and your right there is no fuse protection....BUTTTT just add a fuse then guess what, your protected.

 

Where would you put the fuse? In line with the 6" wire the write up talks about? Also, what size fuse? I want to do this for driving on the beach at night with just fogs and I'd like to put the fuse in while I'm there.

Still bend the tab on your fog relay but other than splicing into green wire i got my power from the switched side of the "Towing tail" relay. The only time that relay is switched on is when park lights are on. Its in the same box so no cutting, drilling, splicing or running wires inside like all the other ways i have seen to do this. I can go back and get the specifics if any ones cares.

 

I'd love to get them. Also do you have any pic's?

 

I will work on some pics this afternoon and shoot those and the pins you need to go to.

What size fuse should I put in line if I want to have one?

I'm getting my power from the solid green wire like most people have done

So where does the relay get power from? Fuse??

 

Ok well first remove your Fog light relay, bend Pin 1 on the relay.
Crimp a small famale blade connector to a short length of wire. Install that connector to the bent terminal on the fog relay and reinstall the relay. strip the other end of the wire. Remove the Towing tail relay, slide the striped end of the wire into Pin 3 of the relay socket and reinstall the relay. For the Pins i am talking about i have posted a diagram and it is just the same as you will be looking at it when you remove the cover.

 

has anyone tryed this other type of mod to see how well it works
just curious cause I have that kind of luck where tapping into the green wire would probaly kill my truck

 

OK Lextech I have one more question. Does doing it this way make the fogs work anytime the key is on or when you put the parking lights on?

 

I like this idea better, running fogs with parking, also ensure I will not leave them on when the key is off.

reading an earlier post, parking lights need to be on, since this is how the power is taken from the towing tail relay.
