Based on that article posted you will take a 27% hit in stated value. so i would fight tooth and nail to get as much of that as possible if fixed.

It completely fascinates me that every time someone gets the slightest scratch they think it is totaled. How could body shops possibly stay in business?

well, if you look at the hit im sure his frame is bent. That requres a whole new frame for these trucks. Toyota does not recommend welding or pulling a frame back to shape.

For other threads where people bitch about scratches and dings on their truck im inclined to agree. This is different

That frame will be fixed. Frame horns at the rear of the truck are bent, slightly. They will straighten them out so the new bumper fits, get compensated for reduced value.

You clearly know nothing about body repair. The damage is minimal and will be repaired. The frame will not be replaced.

The picture angle doesnt help but the bed looks to be angled down slightly and the damage to the honda. that is what im basing it off of.

Everything can be repaired, although you will end up with a Car Fax report that shows the incident and your value will take a hit.

You are basing it off nonsense. Do you seriously think that every time a Tacoma is rear ended that it would be totaled? Take some time to review the detailed post in the link from #48. That is a bent frame. You can see how the bed bowed. This is little more than a bent bumper. It will be fixed and probably for around $2k. Sorry, not bashing you, but these dime store body men than have never had an accident and think everything is a total drive me crazy.

    We’ve had this conversation before.

You couldn’t tell me what what was done to your 4Runner, so I can’t tell you if they should have done it or not.

His truck is a Tacoma, and there are no serviceable parts on the Tacoma frame.
So when you get hit like he did in the rear, it buckles the frame right in front of the mounting points for the hitch, and the frame needs to be replaced in its entirety.

Yeah yeah, you complained about people saying it was totaled when it was totaled in other threads.
    Example A : https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-looks-totalled.625632/page-2#post-21388473

he was cut a check another page later.

Man, I'm not sure that I want someone to take my entire truck apart and screw it all back together on a new frame. I don't have any reason other than a gut feeling, but man, if it was me, I know I'd be chasing down rattles and gremlins for a couple years after that.

edit: it just sounds like a nightmare, but like I said, it's just my gut.

The problem with today's vehicles is crumple zones. Look at the recent issue with Colorado ZR2's bending between bed and cab when off road with trailer. A small scratch can mean big bucks if it impacts a crumple zone.

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.
Frame is bent from what I can see in the pics, as mentioned in an early post (right above the tire). If they do fix it (and since you are not at fault) insist on Diminished Value Compensation, which compensates you for the lost value due to the blemish on the cars report if you decide to sell it at some point. I was rear ended by a woman looking at her cell phone and while they were able to completely fix the car, I did file for DVC and got a substantial payout from that.

Then I hit a deer earlier this month with my truck and got that fixed, but I was unable to locate the deer to sue it for DVC, as it ran away after the collision. I plan on driving out to Washington Pass and finding this deer and demanding compensation.

I had one for 39 days during the diff recall, it hauls ass and does fairly well offroad as a 2wd goes.:anonymous: watercrossings, it bogs down a little when water begins to wash over the hood though.;)
