I will swap you relays. I have the non DRL and want to add it. It is a plug in relay on the back of the fuse box, no cutting required.

Do both have a relay, the DTRL relay is different then the non DTRL relay?
Is there a number for the non DTRL relay??

These are the two parts that you REMOVE to install the DTRLs on Tacomas that DO NOT come with the DTRLs:

The item on the left is a cap for the 12 pin plug ... no number ingraved.

The item on the right is a DENSO 12.8V flasher .. TOYOTA 81980-02030 ... this is the flasher for non-DTRL mode ....about $35 - $50 item depending on your search.

    I hope this helps.

Yes, both have the relay, one is DTRL and the other is not. I had a Prerunner in 2006 and did the same thing with another member.

    # 82241-04030 is the jumper, and 81980-35020 is the DRL relay, you don't need either part, just take it apart and unplug both and plug in the non drl relay.

The flasher relay: (Non DRL) The light gray/tan relay box is the flasher unit. It even says flasher on it along with Denso. If in doubt activate your turn signal/four ways and feel it. You should feel it 'clicking' along with your signal sound. I had trouble with this because I thought it was held in by a positive locking clip. It is not, it is only held in by friction fit. It is nearly impossible to pull it out by using your fingers. I had to put a screwdriver under it while pulling it to get enough leverage so it finally popped out.

Above is the non drl relay, it looks like the part # is 81980-02030

    Here is the link:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/1475-05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.html

    1) remove lower steering panel by removing two 10mm screws at the bottom of the panel on either side of the hood release. Unplug any/all connectors on left side of panel so the panel can rest down on the floor. No need to remove connector on right side of panel.

    2) Remove metal shield behind the lower steering panel (two 10mm screws on either side of steering column).

    3) Unplug all the fuses and relay that have wires attached to them as this will allow you to freely move the fuse box. (all plugs have "tab releases" on them, so make sure you push the tabs and don't force them).

    4) Unscrew the fuse/junctionbox. (one 10mm screw and two 10mm nuts).

    5) Turn the J/B towards you. There you will see a beige relay about 1.5" wide. That's the non DRL relay. Use a sharp pointed tool, like an awl, and push it under the relay from the left side to release the tab, then slide it out, it's tricky.

** The NON-DRL relay is smaller then the DRL relay. You will see the the lighting wires connect to a small wire harness, and that wire harness connects to the NON-DRL relay that is clipped on. you must remove the relay and the small harness.

    6) Connect slide the new, bigger (2.5"), Black, DRL relay into the wiring harness and then onto the same clip the NON-DRL relay was on. Plug the connector in to the relay without the wire harness adapter. (You don't need it anymore)

    7) Reverse for assembly

From Jpmorris it looks like the part # for the non DRL relay is 81980-02030 , In the catalog they separate them by w VSC and w/o VSC as the Tacomas that come with vehicle skid control have DRL's. In his photo the non DRL relay is blue, some are beige but they have the same part #. I am still up for a swap, I will send you the non DRL relay and plug, you send me the DRL relay and jumper harness.

My guess would be either personal preference or the issue with the DRL's bubbling and cracking the headlights. Personally, I like mine...that is, until I see some funny business going on with that bubbling thing at which point I'd have Toyota fix the issue and disable the DRL's.

My DRL's melted my turn signal lens, so I disabled them. Several other members on here have had this same issue.
