3rd gen clutch life expectancy

I wasn't easy on my clutch, especially offroad, so I was surprised I got that many miles. I started getting the "cricket chirp" while in neutral around 200K. It was annoying sitting at the drive-through lines, loud as hell! With the new clutch kit in, my 300K '06 TRD OR MT drives like a brand new truck, has more low end torque than my '18 TRD OR AT, and plus, no more noise in neutral!

 

I don't doubt it!

Wow though. I have only 26k in a bit over 2yrs. I keep bouncing between wanting to preserve it and playing with it.

The funny part is that I looked at two dealer inventories today to see what they have in 2020s out of curiosity. All ATs and all, including SRs, over $38k.

 

Damn, that's a lot compared to what I paid for mine!

I know there is back and forth on the 4.0 versus 3.5. Honestly, the hardware is good, Toyota just pooched the software. A tiny, 3mb file of pure lame. That doesn't have to be suffered though.

My 3rd gen is my daily driver and I'm turning my '06 into my trail rig. I'm used to how the 3rd gen drives now, it took a few months, just to realize that you just have to push that skinny pedal down a littler harder, and a little quicker, that's all!

The shortest commute I've had since I bought the truck in late 2016 is 80 miles round trip. Currently, my commute it 162 miles round trip. However, I've been riding the motorcycle a lot more lately, so it is possible I don't hit 300k miles quite that fast.

 

Very true. But, there is torque to be had at the bottom end. A lot of it. Toyota just buried it. The weird part is that I'm getting better MPGs also. Who knows?

 

I used to have an 80 RT. Not fun.

The M/C bug bit hard, but I'm getting softer. The Taco is a fun drive. I like them about the same these days and never thought that I would say that about a 4wheeled vehicle again.

 

as long as you do the routine maintainence the truck will make it to that mileage, theres peeps that negelected routine maintainence but still are driving the trucks over 200k plus miles

 

My '06 feels much more powerful than my '18. Maybe it's the difference between MT and AT that gives me that butt dyno feeling. I would have bought my '18 with MT as well, but at the time, they didn't make an Access Cab with 6 speed.

 

Yeah. I sacrificed the locker for the LB MT.

The TRAC system does a good enough job so far.

Those Canadians do get the sweet config though.

 

Tit for tat... we get the ACOR MT while you get the DCOR MT. So Sport or Pro were the only options.

You did see his front brakes and rotors were also shot at 49k miles? Something is wrong there and it may not be the truck.

 

You can engage and disengage 4lo while moving can you not? Or is that just 4hi? At quite a decent speed I thought.

Anyways this actually sounds like a nice addition. What other uses does it have? I’m sure there’s a thread on it that answers all this but i think it’s sometimes better to have individual anecdotal info.

 

Low range needs to be 2mph or less and clutch in. 4Hi can be upto 60mph.

Get out there and test this stuff out before you need it. Straight dry roads are fine. No corners!

The 2LM let's you get in the monthly exercise without binding the driveline, deal with the tall reverse gear, and any other kind of low speed, high load maneuvering.
