Is there documentation available on the process? I'm no stranger to writing firmware for embedded devices or writing other software, but these newer generation ECUs are new territory for me, I usually play with older stuff. Maybe a few pointers from someone who has done these already? :) I'm not looking to make money or take business from anyone, my day job keeps me plenty busy.

I 100% commend you for wanting to venture down this path! I'd love to see someone like yourself develop some open source stuff.

Unfortunately, I'm not your guy for the communication protocols. I'd love to follow your progress if you're able to get the info you need. So please keep us posted.

Hello, I found the ECM's part # for my '15 TRD O/R DCSB 4WD, it is P89661-04J80. I also found a used ECM with the same part # on partsmarket.com. It costs $185. If I order this ECM as a back-up (or maybe get both ECM's tuned) & I need to use it will it simply be plug-n-play?

Check www.car-part.com too (but they're probably pulling data from the same place..)

Anyhow, If you get the same ECU, with Techstream/VIN Update Wizard you can set the VIN in your new junkyard ECU to match your truck and you can tune both ECU's and each ECU will be plug-n-play (with the exception of the immobilizer sync process which involves a paperclip and 30min of your time) allowing you to swap back and forth.

Cool. I have read about the paperclip thing as well. Pretty creative.

Immobilizer sync is pretty easy, just need to jump two pins on the OBD connection and leave the truck on for no shorter than 30min while its jumped. Post 330 USED to have the information, but either things got deleted before it, or the post itself got deleted.

@Coot83 you can find and ask all your tuning questions here. This is where all the gurus hang out. And for a small few @JustDSM will help build a custom tune for you, and @nd4spdbh can help dial in the auto transmission tuning side of things.

Sorry you two, he’s probably gonna have lots of questions. Though hopefully I’ve already answered some for him.

I'm super late to this party but I'm about to purchase a HP Tuner for an LS engine swap into a C10 so I may as well do the Taco also. Are there tunes posted somewhere or is everybody winging it? I'm sure its been covered but the thread is 231 pages long and I should be getting ready for bed.

I have tunes available for $50. Includes the base file and support thereafter to further refine or tweak for future upgrades. @nd4spdbh does the trans stuff which is public.

Awesome! So I send you $50 and you send me a file for when I get the tuner? Thats easy enough.

What does your tune provide? I'm just hoping to adjust the throttle input and do away with emissions stuff if I can. Which I can probably figure out on my own. I have a 2012 and have already been through the air injection fiasco. Better mpg would be a plus.

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

I'll send you a PM with the details. The tune will come with revised throttle mapping, ACIS, VVTi, Ignition and Fuel mapping changes. I can also throw in ND4's superb v11 transmission tuning if you're auto or reduce/remove rev-hang if you're a manual trans guy. Most users see between 1-3mpg improvements.

The tune file and future support are included in that price. I'll send you a PM with some info on the other stuff :)

Hell yes, you talked me into it. I'm in.
Man that is awesome. I'll be in touch once I get the tuner in hand.
