Id just be a little weary running that low because of such a high aspect ratio too low tire pressure can be really squashy going down the road...

in my 3/4t id always have to run like 70-80 PSI or itd feel like the tires were gonna roll off the rim. that truck was 7,000lbs though:eek:...

there is no squashiness with my tires. They seem just fine. when I was at 35 psi (drivin from so-cal to colorado springs) they were wearing slightly more in the center. And before when i got the tires i did the chalk test.

    i will do that

To the 2 posts above I am at 40 psi right now and from the looks the middle will wear more. The little thingys are already wore off but the sides are still there. The only thing I do not like about it so far is that with 40 psi the footprint looks pretty long, I am afraid how its going to look when deflated even more :(

the contact patch of the tire with the ground seems really long even at 40 psi...idk how else to explain it lol

I get it now. For me my last tires were 265/70/16, so for me these have less contact width then my last set. I don't really feel any power loss, but then again I have the v6.

intresting. i got 285/70/17, and it knocked about 3 mpg off. i love the height, but when i need tires again in 1.5 years. i will consider these for
sure, i don't care if they are a little skinny. i really want to keep my rims though.

Based on the Expedition West guys im sold on the 255/85/16. Im now trying to decide on a particular rim. I dont mind the skinny tire look but i want a wider stance, both aesthetically and for balance. I definitely wont be running wheel spacers because i actually off-road, i'm looking into some pretty small backspacing. What kind of effect would running a 16x8 rim with 2.50 inch backspacing have? Anyone have pictures of 255/85/16 on a very small backspacing (4" or less)? I'll be starting a build thread pretty soon, but i'm just collecting all my info. The theoretical plan would be running the 255/85/16 Toyo Open Country on this rim http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetai...PCW98-6883R2.5

I wouldn't run an 8" rim. I would stay with 7" wide rim, like what is stock. I kept my stock rims with this size tire but a copper ST and they rub very little on the left uca (havent checked the right side uca) and on the frame with full lock to the right and the right side of the frame (passenger side).
