I really like the racks and the scoop... I wish Off-roads had the scoop..

 

Anybody with an ARE V series that got tracks installed from the factory, can you let me know what the distance is between the inside edge of the tracks? And possibly the distance from the edge closest to the cab to the beginning of the tracks as well.

Ordered my own tracks to install myself and I’m having a hard time figuring out how to square things with all of the mellow rounded edges. Thanks in advance!

 

I ordered an ARE V series Friday and it will have factory installed tracks.
The dealer said it will be about 6 weeks.

Leer 100xr. Traded my factory tonneau and 750 cash. Didn’t get everything I wanted but most of it, and for the price couldn’t complain about it not being color matched. Sliding removable front window, sliding driver side window, passenger side windoor, and set up for racks. Just have to figure out what I need now, my last leer cap had the Thule system, this one has 4 “feet” for Yakima.

 

That took me a minute to research as Yakima has many setup options. You have their “landing pads” and you’ll need additional “towers” (couple different options) and then a pair of their crossbars. New, towers were about 250 if memory serves and crossbars were 100-250 depending what you wanted. You could cut your costs way down by shopping used on CL or FB marketplace. Best of luck! Thanks man! The black turned out better than I thought it would. Thanks for the info, the Yakima site isn’t very informative nor is the Leer website. I saw different towers and didn’t want to order the wrong thing. Also can’t find any info about mounting a prinsu or similar rack directly to the pads? Been searching the forum but no luck so far

 

A Prinsu or similar rack would mount on the tracks not the landing pads. Hopefully you have tracks that the pads are mounted to.

 

thanks for the info. Unfortunately no, just the four landing pads. Going to have to look to see if I could get tracks or just figure out a way to mount and build my own rack

cheaper than Yakima and Thule but accept both products. They are well built, go with the 48” straight (not curved) ones and you should be set. Install was nerve racking to get lined up but easy.

no problem! I just went through all of this research a little while back, glad to help. The track mounting holes have 4 holes per tract, you might be able to reuse some of the holes if they happened to line up. You should be able to fill them pretty easily with marine caulk, and the tracts should at least cover unused holes.

 

Snugtop Rebel with prolock and Thule roof rails. Super happy with it aside from the price being about 2x what i imagined it would be but cheaper than switching to a 4 runner...(becoming a dad this week and need to make the bed more usable for strollers and whatnot) This will also be nice for a hunting rig as I can keep crap in the back and not worry as much about it being stolen. Added bonus of being able to keep all recovery gear and emergency stuff in the back along with some water and other goodies.

As most usually are, I'm curious about leaks and install.. Any specific requests you made?

I went with a 180 and same windoor options. Unfortunately, they dont make a 180 that can support a single handle rear access on the Tacomas.
That also meant keyless was not an option

For me, base price was $1899 + options (windoor sliders: 229, thule rails: 219, slide front window: 129)
Headliner and dome lights were comped and $99 for the install. OTD for 3000

For folks comparing prices, I do believe ARE comes in cheaper. Most dramatically in the price of the windoor sliders, but its important to consider the add-on options when asking this question. With no upgrades, the 180 would be around $2300 installed.

For me the bottom line came down to the styling of the 180 vs the MX. Liked the lines better on the 180, and arguably the windoor sliders too!

 

Anyone have dimension for a DIY platform? DCSB . Thinking of making a plywood platform.

 

I know I've seen THIS posted on here which has dimensions on page 1.. but its also a pre-fab thing you can find on CL or e bay. Been around for awhile...

There's also THIS thread, which I don't know if it has a lot of dimensions listed, but a few different ideas from posters that you could maybe contact and ask.

Recently I just purchased some lumber to experiment with a possible platform build. I know the length is 57" for the cross braces that fit into the two slats on either side of the bed. The width of those boards is about 7". Which means you either need to notch a 2x8, or if you're like me and have a bedrug, then you can probably get away with a 2x6. Haven't gotten much further than that, sorry.

I'm currently workin on a hack for the windoors raising up too high. I've heard and read a lot about the rain runoff when you open them, so I'm guessing that means you ought to limit its range to something slightly below 90º .... But if I do that, then its a real head knocker for trying to access the interiors (window stops mid-forehead). Any tweaks/ideas??

 

How bright are the two dome light bars? I know the bars won't be the same ones, just curious on positioning. The dealer I'm working with suggested just a center bar for the short bed.

 

the two are pretty bright but you could probably get away with one. I just wanted even lighting throughout so I had Matt gecko make a dual kit for me

 

I went with 2, sure glad I did. Dark grey headliner, black bed, black bed mat, I wanna see stuff.
