Squeaky OME Dakar Leaf pack fix/solution?

i fixed the squeak by removing the leafs all togther

 

Guess you'll have to spend the $30 or so to fix it.

 

Just crawled under to look at Dakar’s . Looks like only one hole in the rear and one in the front for grease gun with needle injector . Is this all there is ?

 

They were all greasable. They are also all useless. Absolutely useless. Don't grease them, throw them away.

 

I'm in the process of rebuilding a set of dakars to anyone who used the speedway leaf liner how is it holding up, pics ect. Thanx

 

Just a helpful hint: if your OME leafs (or any leafs) squeak, get some Motorkote. Mine squeaked horribly. Every speed bump was an annoyance. I'd pressure wash and Fluid Film - that worked for a few days, then squeaking again. I sprayed Motorkote on the pads and on the bushings. No squeaks at all for 7 months and still squeak free. Mulitple washings, rain, mud, towing 3500lbs, still no squeak. An I mean literally no squeaking at all

 

How are these working out I'm rebuilding my dakars and thinking of using it full length on each leaf and using the anti friction pads to hold them in

 

Zero issues even after several years. I'm running full length liners. I don't ever think about them because they are quiet.

I dont know if this is known or not. I have not read through this whole thread. I know..

But anyway, mine have be squeaking and groaning more and more. Ive had them on for 3 months or so. Its gets much worse as they get dirty. Especially after a wet day on the trails. It got so bad, to the point I could here it at every bump, every stop, every go. Even over the radio.

Today I had enough. I took the wheels off and started experimenting with 1/16 plastic shims. I started putting them in different spots to narrow down where the noise was coming from exactly. I finally pin pointed where the noise was coming from. The yellow insulators between each leaf at the ends. I put a shim between each one and the noise is gone!

Im not sure if the shims will stay there, but im happy I found where the noise is coming from.

 

You should be able to grease those inserts from the bottom. That would help with the squeak but obviously need to be done regularly.

 

I just installed different isolators mentioned in this thread. Got rid of the shitty yellow ones. Have worked great for me as well as others. 30 dollar fix

 

I pulled my dakars in the spring couldnt handle the noise disassembled painted with POR15 replaced the poly bushings with factory bushings and replaced the yellow friction pads with

$14 Dorman 31067 Rear Leaf Spring Inserts Compatible with Select Models, 2 Pack

Dorman 31067 and reinstalled quiet for now will see after a winter salt cycle how they sound

 

My yellow pads were in bad shape that's why I replaced them with the dormans which seem to be of better quality most of my noise was from the poly bushings that's why I went to factory

 

Does anyone have experience with black energy suspension bushings versus the red or yellow? I know the black ones are supposed to be 'self lubricating', but wanted to see if anyone can confirm that they actually squeak less than the other colors. Seems that most of my squeaking comes from the front bushings.

Does this actually work? I have a hard time believing the grease gets between each leaf.. and anywhere near where the actual movement/ squeaking would be taking place (towards then outward ends of each leaf.)

 

The issue is that the front eye on the leaf pack was rubbing on the leaf spring mounts on the frame of the truck. You get an idea of where it rubs from this picture:



New bushings from Wheeler's and those greasable bolts and everything was silent for me. Really worked well.

 

I just lubed up my leafs last weekend and this is what I noticed. The yellow isolator pads were pretty much shot. Worn really unevenly and absolutely packed full of dirt.

I pulled out the isolators and cleaned ou tthe dirt and then lubed them up with fluid film. It's been quiet so far.

But next time it gets to squeaking I'll be swapping them out for dorman or Toyota OEM isolators.
