Mice chewed wire harness... Again

We live in the country. Rodents surround us. The garage doors get left open frequently and the walls/eaves are semi porous. No funds or plans to rebuild garage soon.

 

By the way, they say fabric softener sheets are a good repellent. I put a box under the hood and another under my front seats and never had it happen again. Don’t know if that’s why or not though.

 

Demo is easy. And fun. Then what? I can't leave my taco outside.

 

We put your truck to work hauling lumber for the new garage.
Hell I'll even bring my drill and impact driver in addition to the sledge hammers.

No recourse. Not Toyota's fault you have mice. Get a cat or feed a neighbor's cat.

 

No soy coating on 3rd gen wiring.

 

My salesman told me there is. He said it lasts longer than the previous coating, and is therefore a better product. Maybe he is wrong?

 

We have a cat. It has killed one mouse that I'm aware of. I set traps in the garage and put deterrents in the engine. Looking for other helpful suggestions. Thanks.

Get rid of any and all food sources in there. Place them somewhere else in steel sealed containers since you can’t really seal up the garage apparently. Good luck.

Your lawsuit reference states all 2012 - 2016 Toyotas. That would include a lot of 3rd Gen Tacomas. Do you think they changed wire coating for the 2017s?

For the sake of diversity (and in the interest of full disclosure), I have a few squirrels in the garage also. They have not gotten themselves into trouble yet. Aside from chewing a hole in the drywall. And several in the OSB eaves. Yummy.

 

walk the plank trap. I’ve got one and it’s the best trap I’ve ever used. I was catching 5 mice a week or so and now there’s rarely one in there. Highly recommended

From my understanding no soy coated wires were used on the 3rd gen Tacoma. Their first year was 2016. There is documentation somewhere from Toyota stating that.

Really is is no big deal since mice and ridents have been chewing wiring forever. Back in the 1970s we had the same problem but most of the time it had everything to do with where mice population or squirrel were.
Personally I don't have a cat, but I have the best cat food money can buy. When I have a mole or rodent problem, i put out the food. In a few days, my food and rodents are gone.
A few years ago moles took over my backyard. I watched the cats (3 of em) just slay the moles.

 

I used to think that too until they burrowed thru them to get into a bag I was trying to keep them out of.

As some have said dryer sheets. I think the brand bounce seems to work best. It’s will deter all animals away
