Trade it for a 4wd! Nah kidding. What kind of mods are you looking for? camping? low riding? off-roading?

2.4L? who cares? I have a prerunner 4 banger 2wd that I wheel the heck out of. It's a myth that you need a large motor to hit the pits, trails, or rocks.

Check this dude for example. This started out as a 2wd truck that was bagged, he did a little work to it since he bought it that way. He is still rockin the 2.4L enigne.

I'm not trying to convince you to do this to your truck, just showing you the possibilities are endless as long as it's built right. If you wanna "pimp it out" join customtacos.com that's what they are all about over there.

Your taco a Prerunner? Or just the base model?

O please...I got a 99 2.7L 2WD Prerunner and I wheel the crap out of it. Best believe I'm right behind everyone else wheeling and if I get stuck, O WELL, just get a little tug and keep on going. They can sure hold their own at times.

What gearing do you have now? I'm not familiar with the base taco's. But I have a similar set as ptown. Looks like he is running 33's, best gearing for that will be 4.56. It will keep the mpg's just about stock. In case you didn't know, but the 2.4 and 2.7 are the same motor, the 2.7 is just on steroids.

Well Im gonna go against the norm and say keep it like it is and do some performance/visual mods. This is based solely on the fact that you have a 5-lug that is already lowered some. And if you feel the need to do some wheeling get you an older 4x4 thats in your price range, of course it has to be an older tacoma:D

Search Search and then Search again! The deckplate is super easy, you don't have to know anything really to do it. Just find the threads about it, most have pics so that will help.
