    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Almost done bringing this back to life. Replaced the bent shaft, changed all the seals, O-rings, and wear bands, set the piston and filled with oil.

Only thing left is to charge them and mount the coils.

Did everything you just stated plus rear disc brakes. Buy a flare tool practice a few times and make sure you make the correct flare. I would say 2 days all day long. Hit me up if you need some info.

Its like a 50/50 with them, family nonsense gets in their way. Theyre like the old American Chopper in that place. Their pressure vessel welding business takes priority too so things can take forever now.

Ok... So I'm getting to the point of having most of my (current) truck projects completed. So, now I'm looking for more ways sink money in my truck.

This is one of those things that's going to happen over time... as with 4x swapping the truck... it will eventually happen. Looking to go long travel in the front. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do up there. It's pretty straight forward, just pick what you want and then go buy the shit. The rear, however, (at least the way I'm looking at it), isn't quite as straight forward. I'm not in to having my front end 5-7 inches wider than the back. So, the question is... Tundra or Sequoia rear axle? Or more specifically, drum or disc rear brakes?

I know there are benefits to both. I'm not specifically looking to do disc brakes, but I'm trying to see if I can get some input on the pros and cons either way. One thing is, I'm wondering if going disc in back would open up a Pandora's box with master cylinders etc.

The overall plan is going lengthened axle (Tundra/Sequoia), out boarding the shocks, flip kit, and Chevy 63s. I'm also thinking I'll need to lock the rear axle because (if I'm not mistaken) Tundra/Sequoia didn't come with an e-locker.... aaaand, as I'm typing this, I'm realizing I'll probably have to re-gear the rear axle as well.

Imo, rear discs arent worth the hassle. Not much more stopping power, just easier to swap pads on every 60k. I think getting the ebrake to work would be the biggest pita.

Also, arent you supercharging some time soon?

Yes, that's already in the plans... I'm the type that starts getting antzy if I don't have 5 or 6 irons in the fire all at one time.

Good point about the e-brake

Ditto. Probably why my savings account looks like ass. And its not been spent on truck stuff lately. I dont think I can go more than a few weeks without some sort of project to shovel my paychecks into.

Sad part is Id like to be looking to buy a home at the end of next year or early 2021. Keep telling myself I gotta lay the projects to the side and save for a bit, but I never do.

Most of those questions are opening a big can of worms. I suggest spending a while reading in the LT subform and some LT 1st gen builds.

And if you want my opinion:

I would look into a FJ80 housing or custom housing with a FJ80 or Ford 9 3rd to get a stronger diff and housing. Tundra axle is just a wider version of what we already have, and I've proven those don't hold up to heavy trucks going fast(ish).

Chevy 63s aren't for go fast trucks, and will never keep up with a front LT kit. You'll at least want to go to SUA to match the front travel numbers.

Make sure you gusset everything you can from the start if you really want to go fast.

Not looking to go fast. Looking to get more travel. The long travel kit that I would LIKE to have would be the Marlin RCLT (Rock Crawling Long Travel)... but that looks to be a bullshit pipe dream that is never actually going to go in production.

...Ready for our hike, we ran into a bit of a pickle - neither one of us had brought a pack...

One might say luckily - but anyone who knows me knows that it's just due to a lack of fashion - I was wearing my camo cargo shorts, and I was able to stash my water bottle in one pocket, my sandwich in another, and still have a couple open for camera stuff. Pops, much more fashionably dressed - in some khaki cargo pants (lol) - did something similar. And we set off!

Check out the full story, and what I discovered at Lost Knife Knoll - in Into the Sierra Wilderness - We Set Out On Foot

That's how everything with them works. Even if they finish it, it will never be in stock.
