So who is or is not happy with the 2019 Tacoma?

Did you try push your phone to the back of the pad for the QI charger? It's picky sometimes.

Is the Auto on headlights a package upgrade? I know my 18 Pro has auto headlights and auto high beams.

 

Well, in a nutshell I like my truck. 2019 trd off road. Will mention plus sides first.

Good stuff.

Tech and premium package with towing of course. Heated leather seats I’ve never had but these are just warm enough they don’t feel too hot even in summer. First time someone turned on heated seats while I was in passenger side was terrible, felt like I was about to be set on fire it was so hot.

All the buttons and such, neat, but likely most not needed. Heated mirrors a plus in any environment and they work as they should.

Ride quality is very nice. On road or off road I am pleased and won’t change unless I lift the truck one day and add larger tires.

Fuel economy is good enough for me as I’m getting 20-21 consistently.

Take off horse power seems ok. Overall horsepower also seems just fine. It’s towed everything I needed so far with zero problems. Downshifting for passing is considerably different than my 2nd gen as my ‘butt dyno’ feels the power difference when passing. Still not bad though.

Looks of the truck are nice despite only being minimally different than the second gen and interior looks a lot better to me.

Jbl radio system sounds plenty good for me. Be happy if it was there and be just as happy if it was same radio from my second gen. As long as it plays music I’m good there!

Headlights look nice. Auto lights are nice too but a little buggy. Maybe after few more years the technology will improve a bit and will be much better. Downside is the headlights are nowhere near as good as my 2015 was. Maybe just needing to be adjusted to raise the cutoff because it seems very low.

TSS is a great new feature and something similar or even better should be on every vehicle. Could save a lot of people from bad accidents. Tw police will see otherwise.

The cargo light is great. Very bright and very useful. Also the 120v outlet is nice to have even though this really a 3rd gen only thing.

Touch to open on drivers door, great! Should be on every vehicle nowadays to make it so you never remove keys to get in or start car. Love this like my Altima for work commute.

Warning that moon roof is open when turning car off. Awesome! I’ve been blessed to have never left any moon roof open on any of my cars and it rained. However the warning is nice just in case!!

Power sliding rear glass window makes it useable now. I literally never used the sliding glass window in my second gen. I use it all the time now that it’s a power window. Lazy? Not really. Just makes zero sense to stop the truck, get out of truck, climb halfway into back and unlock and slide it just to do it all again when done driving.

Digital readout on dash as well as added stuff pertaining to the truck within the head unit is nice. Not sure what 90% of it does really but still neat to have it in the event that I ever get around to looking at it more.

Bluetooth seems same as my second gen. It works for most part. Only negative I have is for some reason it doesn’t ring in my truck when I receive a call. I know it’s a call coming it but never rings. Unsure if that’s me or truck but oh well.

Crappy stuff!

Give me back my steering remote to operate calling people . No game changer but this feature was always so nice to click a button and scroll through my contacts to make a call. Now it’s gone and makes me touch radio now. Ah well. I don’t like talking to my truck but voice dial thing does work after the training thing.

Erratic gear shifting sucks. Anyone says their Tacoma is fine then the truck suits their wants and needs. Coming from a 2015 Tacoma, it takes a lot of getting used to and still isn’t perfect. Hopefully in time I’ll just accept it.

Ceiling height inside truck is too low for anyone my height. Have to keep the sunroof visor open allowing my head to be in the open cavity because if I lean to the left my head hits the liner up top.

Phone charging is sub par. They advertised the wireless charging as a plus and it’s basically useless. Time you drive from work to home it may add 1% to my battery life in the 22 minute drive. Built in port above that bay is slow as well and most say because it’s a data port but I don’t see a whole lot of difference in the ones inside the console. Who really sees this as a good thing to have a close box with charging ports ? Should be outside the box not inside.

Trailer brake hookup is shady feeling. The one I had on my 2015 was solid when you plugged it in. The one on my new truck feels so cheap almost as if one day I’ll press too hard and cave in the plastic bumper. Is nicer location though on the truck.

Long post sorry but it basically sums up my thoughts in the 3rd gen vs 2nd gen upgrade. Very happy overall with my truck and a lot more good things than bad. Shifting be only true thing that I can see they should focus on all around and completely redo the software that

 

Mine is the 3rd, in my 72 years. This 19, well I haven't burned a full tank of gas yet, and yes, I'm happy.

There is NO perfect vehicle out there, so get use to it, quite nitpicking your vehicle, and just enjoy it!!

My family either has Tacomas or Tundras, and all we have ever had to do was ........... change the oil at intervals

 

I just bought my Double Cab SR 4 cylinder 2 weeks ago and I love it. The 6 speed auto with the 4.30 rear is so much better than the old 4 speed autos in my 2011 and 2015.

I traded my 2018 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Harvest Edition for a basic 4 banger Tacoma. The hemi required 89 octane and even after a couple mods I'd only get 18.5mpg with a light foot in mixed driving. My new truck had 1 mile on it when I bought it and after the dealer filled it up I got 22.5mpg out of the first tank. I swapped out the factory tires for some Cooper Discoverer Rtx 265/75/r16 and lost 1 mpg but I'm still happy with the better mpg's and cheaper 87 octane.

My 42 inch deck Cub Cadet fits in the bed just fine with the tailgate down and it doesn't seem to notice 500lbs in the bed. We had 4 people in it when I test drove it with the AC cranked, and it pulled just fine.

The 2.7l auto has the same AC60E transmission the V6 2wd trucks get so I'm not worried about its longevity knowing it can easily handle over 100 more hp.

I'm 6'4" and entry is still a pain but legroom and hip room is actually better than my 1500's was (headroom still sucks). They moved the mount for the rear view mirror up on the windshield and it improves my view out front over past years. Seat bottoms are still too short and the seating position is actually too high for me, the tilt/telescoping steering wheel could go out and up another inch for tall people. I know it sounds like I'm complaining a lot but I understand I'm built funky and you can't tailor every vehicle for every body type.

Overall I love the thing and wish I'd bought a 3rd gen sooner. I'm saving a ton of money on gas and my payment and it's definitely going to hold it's value better than a Ram lol.

 

LOL, yeah and I looked for 3 months before realizing that; that configuration didn't exist.

 

I purchased a new Chevy 1500 Silverado Extended Cab years ago. I kept hearing this banging noise in the passenger front tire area when I drove over even the smallest bumps. Turns out the upper shock mounting nut was never installed at the factory so it was simply flopping around. GM quality!

 

This!! When I was shopping for my 2019 OR, I first sat in one with the sunroof and thought "Oh crap! There is no way!" I quickly realized that the model without the sunroof had so much more headspace and I went with that. Figured I'll be putting a roof rack on in the future anyway, so....

 

Funny as hell. And accurate assessment.

 

You would think the dealership would know that the sunroof is not available with Access Cabs.

 

I have a 2019 access cab 4x4 2.7 liter auto. I now have 11000 miles on it problem free. It gets great fuel mileage, comfortable and has plenty of power for a 4 cylinder. The only issue is when the truck sits overnight, it has a hesitation/ stumble for about 10-15 seconds and it's fine after that. I had it checked at the dealer and they said there was no codes and they won't check that trans fluid because its a sealed unit.

 

Just bought a 19 OR 4x4 with Premium and Tech. Not one regert. Love this thing,have no complaints. Bought it 3 weeks ago with 278 miles on it,now have 1,500. Everything is smooth as butter. I will say I have noticed the sluggishness at lower rpms,but the ECT button helps that a lot. Will have the truck until the wheels fall off,it's everything I wanted lol

 

Where did you see that the Hemi engine required 89 octane? I ask because I had a 2014 Ram with the Hemi and ran 87 octane for over 2 years that I owned it without a problem. I don't think the trucks were changed from 2013-2018.

 

Curious, what kind of mpg do u get?

 

Love my 2019 DCLB-OR in MGM. Bought it in April and already 12K miles. Yikes. Wishing for new wheels (17" TRD pro) and an ARE cap if/when funds allow.

Have you looked into getting front seat spacers? @EasyDoesIt makes them, helped me (and many others) a lot.

 

It was a total game changer for me. It’s a pleasure to drive now. literally changed my whole outlook on the truck when I got front and rear risers. I honestly thought I was going to have to trade it in because my leg and knee were so sore after long drives.

I got a set of each of these. I got the rear ones first but they were actually worse in the long run without the front ones. The combination was the magic sweet spot for me :

Love my 2019, beside that changing gears on short uphill and although i have navigation, still apple carplay is way to go

 

Only thing I don't like is the seat is not that comfortable I'm 6 2 240
