In 6th you will see about 530 rpm higher on an MT with 31.5” tires at 70mph.

    Actually, almost 550rpm more.

I was curious about that post, so I was just looking. Cool little calculator:
    http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

I used the stock tire size.

Just realized I did the calc assuming the same size tires for both final drives. If you go stock tires with 4.3:1 to 31.5” tires with 5.29:1, it’s more like 460rpm.

I will study it more when I get back to my PC . Service is pathetic right now. So staying with same tires but going 4.3 to 5.29 460 more rpm at 70 in 6? That still doesn't worry me that much. Not a highway cruiser. Plus when these tires wear out I can easily go larger with no worries.

I wish we could add crawl control and MTS like you can on the GX 460's....super jealous of my wife.

I didn't see RC62F on the drop down. What ratios did you input?

You have to enter the transmission ratios manually. They're in my signature below.

Note that once you get all the data entered, at the top of the form is a save button that I'm guessing puts a cookie in your browser. It will keep the data saved on the computer that you are using.

What's the parking brake setup in the 3rd gen? Under the steering wheel, golf putter, pull-handle like my 1st gen? Hand brake in the center console? 4th pedal farthest on the left?

If it's a hand brake, I would just use that and skip hill assist as I know how to drive a manual.

It was changed to a handbrake on the console.

I've been driving MTs for about as long as I had a license and never used a hand brake assist. The Hill Assist on the 3rd Gen is automatic and not defeatable as far as I can tell. It seems to be some function inside the ABS unit.

I've never needed help, even in the hilliest areas. I may have stalled, but never rolled back. In the end, I am okay with Hill Assist but wouldn't miss it if it was gone.

Now, if you hear about the Hill Assist on the ATs, it is completely different and I would want gone. It allows roll back before it kicks in and seems to engage the ABS with the typical groans. It is said that it doesn't stop rolling back either. Go figure.

I have beat the ever-loving fuck out of my (then) stock off-road, all across the US, and never once felt i was going to get stuck w/ the a-trac. Factory tires don’t seem to do well with mud, but do great on rocks. It’s been a very over-landy trip. I’ve since gotten a lift but they did a shit job and i regret it. Rock sliders are worth their weight.

I’d leave it stock and see how it does before you spend all that cash on mods.

The sport has a lesser traction control system than the off-road, and the m/t’s gearing sucks off-road -but if you’re going to throw 5.29 lockers in it, irrelevant.

and the taco can fit on some real narrow trails if you’re not afraid to give it some battle scars (same with clambering over rocks w/ the undercarriage)

Cool yeah that works fine. Thanks guys! I must have been thinking other tire sizes and such when I compared. Still going with 5.29. I will be getting larger tires when these wear out as I mentioned.

After many years of driving 1st and 2nd Gens having the pull handle I've punched the dash in my 3rd Gen a few times reaching for it lol.

Allow me to answer this again. More politely.

    First start here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-5-29-mega-thread.557305/page-80

Yes indeed, higher RPM. Not really that extreme as I said before. MAYBE 400+ more rpm near 70. More in the power band! Hahaha Plus when these tires wear out I can go larger with no worries. This truck is not a 70 mph highway cruiser for me, bottom line. Yes I CAN take it on the highway, but no need. The trade off, in 4L will be worth it. In the theme of this thread, I'm turning my Sport into a torque monster.

Sorry for my earlier crappy response.

Your build is going a slightly different direction than me if you are willing to sacrifice highway comfort.
As much as I'd like to be 90% off the pavement, in reality I still want to go across the country to get to different destinations within reasonable time, so I'll be retaining reasonable gearing for myself.
That said, I know what the current blazer is capable of, and I'm not going backwards in capability, I only want to go deeper into harder trails, so keeping it stock-ish is not an option.
the long overhangs and wheelbase along with the extra weight I'll be hauling is going to be a hindrance, so I am going to throw some money and effort at it to make it work better.

As much as I'd like to explore the world like the other threads I'm currently reading, it's not in the cards at the moment, I'll be sticking to north america with this rig, so complexity/parts availability is not too much of a concern.
