Rerouting switches around the cabin

I'm looking at installing heated seats in my 2019 TRD OR MT (tech pack, but no premium). I've installed heated seats in multiple vehicles, not too worried about the actual install and wiring - it's easy. What I'm worried about is a spot to put the switches. I'm looking at getting the Besond toyota kit on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Besond-heate...besond+toyota+seat+heat&qid=1572555752&sr=8-1) with the 2 individual OEM style (they look like 4Runner) switches. The problem is, I only have 1 blank switch spot in the lower dash switch panel. I'd like to eventually get a MESO switch with more spots, for heated seats and other add-ons, but he's not making them currently.

I'm thinking I'll reroute the USB/AUX plug somewhere else, using something like this -

I really only use the USB plug for my old 120 GB iPod, and i'd prefer it to be in the center console, so I'll probably reroute it to there and drill a hole in the plastic for that adapter.

I was also considering re-routing several of the other switches, like the parking sensors and BSM - I'd prefer them in the panel to the left of the steering wheel. Has anybody done this? How hard is it?

@MESO has a couple of switch panels that he sells.

 

Like I said, he's out of stock of all his panels. Supposedly he's doing custom order ones soon, but no word on when.

Back to my question - anybody ever rerouted some of their switches from the lower middle dash to left of the steering wheel? Specifically the BSM and parking sensor buttons.

 

I got the same kit but these Toyota switches. Got the kit off Amazon for $100

 

You can get this panel which replaces the cubby hole and then buy the tall Toyota switches (even custom) from CH4X4. This is definitely the most affordable and easiest install without tearing your entire dash out.

Put the switches in the center switch plate so the passenger can access their heated seat switch. Best place to put it.

 

+1 for this. Haven’t moved switch from where you are talking to the cubby myself, but I can’t imagine it would be too difficult. Everything from that center panel runs under the steering area anyway. If you get it done, post some pics and share your knowledge with the world.

 

Lots of members have installed this. Really I was implying adding new switches to this panel instead of relocating.

 

Also when your wiring harness is under the seat you go under the center console and up into the center of the dash. Very easy and the switches fit like a glove. No need to go wiring under the dash. The blank switches pop right out. Easy to do or put the switches on the side of the seat but then a passenger can also forget to cut it off. The center switch is best imo plus the switches gives a high and low setting with matching dash lights.

Did you use a relay for each heater?

 

yes, but I think OP wants to use the panel to move the bsm and parking sensor from the center panel to make room for seat heater switch. That’s the relocate I was referring to.

 

The kit comes with only one box that both heat kits plug into. The box could have two relays in it but not sure. Both heat kits work independent and plug into the one panel switch which controls each seat independently. Also only take one fuse spot as well. I have had mine now for over a year and works great.

 

I've been thinking about installing this for the longest time. How was the install on the seats? I've done a heated seat install before, but the seat didn't have hog rings and I didn't have to cut the element to make it fit the seat. So how did that go? I'm a little worried cutting the element would leave exposed wires inside of it or something. I have off next thurs and friday so I would be doing the install then if I do buy it

 

I found that kit earlier today, and was considering buying it, but couldn't find any reviews. It's worked we'll we' you so far? Seems like my best option for now, since I just have the 1 blank switch spot.

 

I for sure will, if I tackle it. I think for my heated seats, I'll go with the kit with the 1 switch for both pass and driver seats, but I still want to relocate some switches to make room for some accessory switches someday.

Ya, I've looked at those panels. But I can't figure out if @MESO is actually doing custom panel orders now or not. I love the look of his panels.

 

Also, how did you wire it up? Did you use fuse taps to tap into your fuse box? That's my plan.

The kit I purchased had two switches and four relays, one for each heater. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the one you linked. Make sure the kit you chose has relays pre-wired in the wiring harness.
