Need idea for mounting box in bed

So I bought this big rubber maid type trunk to store luggage or what ever else in for my up coming vacation, and I am trying to think of a way to secure it to my truck. Obviously the easiest way is to drill into the bed, but I really want to mount it into the bed rails but I need some ideas on how to do it

I like your idea probably the easiest thing to do

 

Shove a bolt through it while it's tight against back wall. Pass bolt through the center drain hole in the truck bed. Hope this makes sense.

 

so here is what I did. Went to home Depot got 4 bed tie down with a d ring in the middle used self tappers put 2 on the front of the bed and 2 on the box and used some chain and pad locks to secure it. I need to tidy up the chains a but pics tonight when I get home

 

Bah had to work late now its dark but I did get some master locks on it so its as secure as I can make it obviously if some one really wants it they are gonna get it know mater what I do but I think I am set now. Pics as soon as I can I promise

Here is how I did mine.

The box I used is manufactured by Contico, it's called the Tuff Bin. I added two D-rings to each side of the box to attach the box to the truck.





I have extra D-rings installed under the bed-bolts in the front and middle of the bed, a padlock was passed through the D-ring in the corners of the box and the front of the bed, this is all that was needed to hold the box to the bed.



With the box loaded and sitting on the bed mat it does not move. When I went trailing I attached two tie-downs to the other D-ring mounted on the box and attached these to the extra D-rings mounted under the bed-bolts in the middle of the bed.





I have no use for a box in my truck all of the time. When I go trailing or camping this works perfect. It holds my tools, floor jack and a small compressor. On vacation I also had all my carwash stuff in there along with all the tie-downs and bed-net I used to secure my load. Takes about two minutes to put the box in or take it out.

 

I couldnt find Drings like that at Home Depot so I had to go with a different set up but I should be able to get some pictures up tonight. Its locked down good though with chain and 3 magnum masterlocks hehe

 

I use (L angle bracket) to bolt the box to the back rail.
use T nut that was made to fit.





Who can say that you can bolt to the rail, Use T-bolt or Car bolt.

Easiest thing to do is to drill a hole in the bottom of your rubber maid and fish a carriage bolt through the existing drainage holes and twist a wingnut on it from under the truck. Put a nice big washer in the rubbermaid to distribute the pressure......wham bam.

 

How about an old ammo box? I know this has been done before. I've seen the thread, but all the pics were obsolete.

I am going to take 2 50cal ammo boxes, drill some holes in the side of them, and mount them on the rail. (going to use some t-nuts to attach to the rail.

I plan to carry most of my tie-downs & jumper cables in them.

 

YAY pictures. one of the things I wanted with this box was the ability to remove if easily if I had to only have a 5 foot bed some times I need all the bed space I can get. This box is primarily going to be used to keep my luggage in when I go on vacation.

I now need to repaint (L angle bracket), The sray can say it is black but came out dark gray.
I will take apart by unbolt from rail use Hex wench and wing nut in side the chest tool box
