Hi All, I would like to add the following speaker on the center pillar right above the seat belt shoulder anchor. Can I just screw in the bracket and be done with it or do I have to remove the plastic and support it some how? I've never taken it apart so I'm hoping the screws can hold the speaker but worried the screws might come loose due to the vibration. Any help is much appreciated.

have you considered putting in car speakers instead. that thing would look terrible, likely sound terrible, and pull out of the plastic. just a terrible idea all around

Yeah, bad idea. Your truck has built in slots for speakers that will be better than that thing...what's wrong with them? Is that for a comms radio or something?

yes it’s for my ham and CB radio. I was thinking of doing one on each side. It’s kinda tight as it is under the steering column so not sure where else to mount them that can be out of the way and not get stepped on.

Could your head (or a passenger’s head) hit the speaker mounted to the b-pillar trim? I don’t like the idea in general.

Were one to do it, it would probably be a good idea to mount the speaker with bolts rather than screws, and to use a thin metal plate behind the trim to distribute the load.

But you’re getting some good suggestions for alternative mounting positions and I hope you’ll see options that make sense for you.

I think I’ll try Benson X suggestion since that’s the easiest and if that doesn’t work I’ll see about mounting it with nuts and bolts but will check first if it’s gonna clear my skull. Thanks for the help guys!

Good thinking, Charlie213 — remember when the fit hits the shan one gets thrown all over the place very quickly.

I don't know what's down there yet but maybe under the center console next to the cup holder pointing up. Idk if it'd fit there or not. Almost anything would be better than that square box next to your head, IMO of course.

    Sweet install BensonX, nice work.

I don't recall exactly what hardware I used to attach it to the plastic, but (knowing me) I probably just used some self-tapping screws. I may have used a small machine screw with a nut & washers on the back, but I doubt I would have worked my fat hands behind the plastic to make that work. Maybe I did :notsure:

Thank you - I've since upgraded that CB to the Anytone Ultra-Compact 10M CB. The thing is SUPER small and powerful (15w) - the only downside is the fixed mic cable. I've seen a German fella who modified his with a standard 4-pin mic. and added a rotary channel knob in place of the mic. cable port. Seems like a lot of work just to have a standard mic. though.

I get wanting the speaker near your ear since that's what you hear with, not sure why you'd want it at your foot, does your foot listen well? Some other places to consider: replacing the door speakers with non-tweeter speakers and put the cb speakers in the tweeter position. Or use a car speaker and flush mount behind the dome light in the ceiling (requires dropping the headliner and cutting a hole. Or make a mount for the rear cup holder in the center console.

My foot can't hear anything but it speaks very well. Lol

I've installed several CB external speakers under the dash and they sounded fine, it's not like you're listening to music. With a 6x9 at the bottom the door and removing the tweeter the stock stereo system wouldn't sound good at all. Swapping the stock 6x9 for a coaxial or triaxial speaker could solve that. Mounting it near or in the rear cup holders at the center console is a good idea.
