Thanks for the info guys. I stopped by auto shop after work and had them test the battery. It tested fine but they did have trouble getting a connection on the tester at first, probably due to a little bit of corrosion. I cleaned up the posts so we’ll see what happens tomorrow. I hope it really is that simple!

Didn’t read all posts but my wife’s xterra was doing the exact same thing and I though it was fuel pump too. After it died and left her stranded it ended up being the cam position sensor that was going out. Got it replaced and no problems since. Worth a try?

After cleaning the battery posts, no starting issues today. I’m going to give it a couple more days before I call it definitively but it’s looking like maybe it was just a bad battery connection after all.

Sounds about right, loose/dirty connections can cause the starter to draw more amperage so even if your battery is good it will be hard to start

Well the problem just reared it’s head again.

I may go ahead and replace the battery before doing anything else.

My buddy just had his 2007 Dodge Cummins not want to turn over after parking at a lumber yard. Truck was fine up till then. No click or any electrical response whatsoever.

We tested the battery, and it was good. We disconnected the battery terminals and thoroughly cleaned and reattached them. No dice!

Then noticed that the key fob wasn't locking/unlocking either.

After some Googlefoo, we found a fix that worked. Just completely isolate the batteries from the truck so the ECU gets a fresh reset.

    Bingo!

Truck turns over properly and starts, and key fob was back in business.

When we clean the terminals earlier, we did one at a time so he always had 12v applied as he has two batteries.

Not saying this is the answer to a Gen 3 Tacoma, but you never know with these vehical computers nowadays.

When you turn the vehicle to the on position, you ought to be able to hear the pump run for a sec or two.

Have someone turn the vehicle to "on" but without starting, while you listen by the filler tube to a sort of buzz sound.

Well already I think there's still an issue. It hasn't done the flat out no start issue but when I started it this morning the starter made a weird noise as if it didn't disengage immediately after the engine started. I don't know what that means but it just doesn't seem right.

That may be "normal". Mine does it when it's really cold (say below 14F).

I'll keep an eye on it. It was parked in the garage so temp was around 50 this morning.
Inconsistent problems like this drive me crazy because I become hyper aware of every little thing it all feels like a potential problem!

Well, after 3 days with the new battery it's happened again and I caught it on video.
It only has one little bobble in this video but it happened again just a few minutes ago and turned over 7 or 8 times before it fired.
Does this give us any clue as to what's going on?

I just found this thread and this guy's truck sounds exactly like what mine is doing intermittently.
