In all seriousness, why not wait to see what Toyota does with the new tundra and forced induction?

Just got my 15K free service at Stevinson Toyota East in Denver (Aurora), and with a little bit of sass to my service advisor about how "Toyota probably just writes software / firmware code for fun, no reason to actually check or install it..." he did agree and they performed it despite not being able to duplicate the symptom. I told him there is an online list of dealers who will and won't do the TSB, totally talked down his whining about Toyota being really particular about allowing it, with hundreds of participants shaming the dealers that don't want to. That sort of got his attention.

Anyhow, totally agree with above here, shifting into 2nd is now so smooth, happy to have this done!

FYI-Parker Toyota of Coeur d'Alene, ID completed this TSB-0062-18 without much hassle, just the usual "my truck feels like it's hunting for gears" line. I must say my 2018 TRDOR shifts much smoother after the TSB. No more downshift/5k revs on cruise control to Seattle. Truck drives as it should. If your truck qualifies for this TSB I would highly recommend you get it. It's a much better driving experience.

So I have seen this thread but didn't think much of it, my 18 limited does shift kind of weird, but I wasn't sure it was worth the effort to try and get this done. That being said, my truck is in this week for a warranty claim (my back axle is not the proper specs-maybe its bent or something- and is causing premature wear to the brakes) anyway, my loaner is a 19 Tacoma OR and the transmission shifts great compared to my truck.

I want to have this done to my truck while they have it, so what should I tell my service guy to get this done without much hassle?

Dealer is in Fayetteville AR, it's part of the Penske dealership conglomerate if that matters. I'm sure the script is somewhere in these 160 pages of the thread, I'm just too lazy to look for it.

Just bring printouts of the 3 tsbs that cover this and say that you’re not satisfied with the way your truck behaves and you want them to apply the update. Tell them to take their pick from the tsbs. They all apply the same fix.

What is the best dealership in the Phoenix, AZ area to have this performed. I called around last summer to have this issue addressed and everyone was telling me that's just how the truck drives.

Print out the TSB, schedule an appointment, tell them you are experiencing the issues in the tsb. If they still don't want to perform it, show them the tsb and ask for it to be performed.

I took it to AutoNation in Tempe, the service manager has a 17 and knew exactly what I was talking about. Notes say “found update for engine software EG1810 Reprogram ECU”. I didn’t really notice a big difference on my way home other than the throttle felt a little smoother and more responsive (placebo effect?) I was in evening traffic on city streets. I did notice when coming off the line at a stop light I didn’t fall 8 car lengths behind the car in front of me like it usually does. Won’t really notice anything until I commute to work next week on the highway and use cruise control.

I could be wrong in this but I thinkkkkk the update adds some mid range power. Let me see if I can find what I think I read.

That’s sweet. I drove it for 200 miles today. I was getting 21.5 mpg on the hilly highways around Phoenix. I have 285/70R17 tires and a lift. That’s 4 mpg better then I was getting prior. It stays in high gear and powers through the hills without dripping to 3 and 4 gear and holding it for a few minutes like it used to with the cruise control on.

I also drove up to northern arizona mountains and went off-roading on some trails in 4x4 high and ect mode. After the climb up to the elevation and wheeling for an hour and coming back to Phoenix the tank avg is still at 19.6 mpg.

I have not corrected the speedo for my tire size. If I account for my tires it’s 23/21 mpg. The truck drives soooooo much better. I was seriously considering get of rid of it. Best thing ever. I love my truck now.

This works, our truck stalled since we bought it in 2018. Shifts were not crisp and lower power. We had to beg dealer to do update. We were told truck is learning, then bad gas then we drove it wrong. They finally did update and everything improved- takeoff, shifting even power with cruise control. No brainer if you have less than 80k miles. Dealer said tsb didn’t match my VIN but the first code (engine/transmission?) matched- don’t know why they couldn’t find it in their computer. Thank you so much on the forums.

Went to Kearny Mesa Toyota San Diego this morning for my 20,000 mile Toyota Care Service. Bought the Truck at 15,000 from a friend...
Started Lurking on TW...Heard about how much shit ya'll were getting trying to get the TSB done, So I just Installed Shift Sense Pro & Pedal Commander that you guys were talking about...That seemed to do better than going crazy with this thing shifting like it does..
But all those Threads were from 2018.
Well, I decided to Mention to the Service tech about the TSB, and he just said (Yea, I think there's a software update for your Trans, I'll have them flash it!)
WHAT? No Arguing, No Fight? All that sweat'n about it for nothing! LOL...

SHIFTS LIKE BUTTER NOW! WoW...I only drove it home, but definitely A Big difference! Shifts like my 05' now...I Might not ever use my SSP anymore LOL I'll update if i feel any different later.

The #'s are a little diff from the 2018 thread...

Tech wrote on final work order:

Customer states - Vehicle surges while driving ***(I told him the TSB 0062-18 said "Stumble @ High Alt. Wide open throttle")***
Connected Tech Stream and found a Transmission Update
    Software was 896650404000
    Updated Software to 896650404100

Hey guys! Sorry to be late for the party, but have been having an issue and wonder if it’s related to this TSB?

While exiting an underground parking lot from dead stopped, my truck was shaking like crazy headed up the incline, I didn’t know wtf was happening. Then last week while starting up from a red light, it was shaking and I lost power almost like you were switching a lightbulb power switch on and off over and over again.

I’m a rookie with Tacos, and dealing with the dealership. I have an appointment for my 19 Taco which has 13,000 miles. Should I expect a fight or do they have to honor the TSB? Bonus dumb question, with my two years service included, does that include oil and cabin air filters or is that an additional cost?
    Thanks very much.

hey yall, ive got a 19 OR auto. I've noticed when coming off the line it hits hard, then falls back, then a second or two later hits again. Is this something that can addressed with TSB flash? Read through the past few pages but most people are doing this on 17s and 18s it looks like. I also have experienced it holding 4th gear in cruise control, far after reaching the top of a hill. Thanks!
