1 or 2 gallon chemical sprayer for undercoating

Will any of those 1 or 2 gallon chemical sprayers work at home for Krown, Corrosion X, or Fluid Film?

 

Won't work for fluid film and bar and chain oil... I tried it before I purchase the sprayer from Kellsport

Quite possible. This guy used a manual spray bottle and simply heated the Fluid Film before spraying it.

You'd likely have to dilute it enough that it'd no longer be effective.

Not gonna work. You need a compressor pushing 50 psi with an undercoating gun.

Some do dilute it with acitone or laquer thinner, but that is expensive and very smelly as well as flammable. Theory is that the thinner evapoparates and leaves just the undercoating behind. I don't by that theory.

fluid film is way to thick to spray with a chemical sprayer. It will work on bar and chain oil if you cut it with gasoline but if you park your car indoors that is not a good idea and it will drip for days. Buy the professional gun that will accept wands preferably one that comes with the 32" 360* wand. And use woolwax not fluid film woolwax is much thicker and will stay on longer than fluid film.

i am curious what its like, i am testing two products at once currently on my truck to see how they both perform this winter

 

I recently picked up the Kellsport Pro undercoating gun and very pleased. I use to just hand brush on fluid film but no more. I only have a small 15 gallon air compressor that I set at 75psi to spray the fluid film. I've read the pro gun is better than the non-pro. It came with 3 canisters and two wands, an extension on and the 360* for inside frame rails. My tdi took me about 35 minutes to spray and the tacoma about 45-50 minutes total. I went heavy on the tacoma because it was my first time spraying the truck. The tdi has been done every year. Also way cheaper to buy fluid film in a gallon. My local Napa had a gallon for $37.

I can get some tomorrow because i have a few places i missed when i sprayed woolwax a week or so ago. It's harder to spray than fluidfilm because it's a lot stickier and you can not use a 32" 360* wand because it's to thick. There are enough holes in the taco frame where you can use the shorted woolwax wand but i use bar and chain oil inside the frame and rockers i dont bother with woolwax. I save the expensive stuff for the outside of the frame that needs something thicker to hold up to road spray. I do the frame, floor pans bottom of the bed axles and everything with woolwax. I have a discount code somewhere that will save about $5 off a gallon of woolwax i will have to find it though.

that is where i am testing the 2 head on this winter for comparisons

i messed up today and only sprayed one product on the rear axle housing, ..was wanting to get a comparison half-n-half back there, oh well!

 

I did my 97 4runner completely in fluid film, my 99 5 lug taco in woolwax and my new 02 6 lug taco in more woolwax. I did not discover woolwax until i had already bought the gun and did my 4runner in fluid film. After i used both i can understand why woolwax is considered the better product it is much thicker and it should prevent wash off much better. I have not tested them though a winter season yet but after spraying both and having to clean up after spraying both woolwax is a much nastier product which is a good thing. Not bashing fluid film but for the minimal price difference I'm going with the stuff that sticks better from now on.

I am curious what made people that responded after my comment to say that it wouldn't work.
BBYE V8 made what appears to be a typical post with instructions on how to replicate his success. He was able to use a regular hand sprayer, which I presume to be not as good as pressure sprayer. If this person had success just by heating the FF, then it would seem unnecessary to discourage the OP from attempting to use the pressure sprayer.

So I'm wondering what happened here:
1) Responders looked at the linked thread and determined that claims by BBYE V8 were bogus and / or fabricated (aka lied) and therefore invalid.
or
2) Responders didn't read the previous comments and / or didn't click on the link to see if what I wrote was true.

Some of the responses that contradicted the claims BBYE V8 would have taken more time and effort than it would have taken to click on the link, read the claims and determine whether the person's opinion was still valid or not. I find it odd that people, in the course of laziness, wouldn't bother using a shortcut that would eliminate their need to reply entirely, and therefore advancing the presumed laziness. This seems like it would be a good semester for a psychology student to dissect.

Wow.

Yep it works, but an undercoating gun is almost the same price and it works awesome.

And no having to pump the sprayer up every 15 seconds is kinda nice too.

 

$9 for a pressure sprayer
vs
$30 for an undercoating gun
$100 for an air compressor and accoutrements

You can't pay bills with hand pumps on a sprayer, so I suppose some people are willing to trade the added effort for money.
