As others have said, that should be a boot. On mine is a boot and plastic. I can get a pic tomorrow, diff is out so so many things are easy to access. Too bad the diff is such a pain to remove, would make a lot of jobs easier.

Your alternator brushes properly are going out, you can replace them, brushes cost like 15.00 at the dealer, there are two different styles, so buy both and return the one not needed

I tore a CV boot about a month ago. Luckily the truck isn’t my daily. Just ordered a pair of these based on your post.

I need to work on getting the backup camera added. Actually tempted to do the fancy any time front camera too.

why would you have to do a starter already, you don't have that many miles i thought
do you do a lot of stop and starting?
i have heard these starters can take some serious abuse such as using the clutch start cancel to get out of a stuck situation

i recall the first TW 3rd gen that inspected my truck for authenticity or whatever
he was amazed that i had that little button & did not know the old trucks were equipped with that lol

I couldn't find a replacement boot. Like I said, I'm anal and just bought another OEM starter. Old one is fine. I replaced the contacts/plunger and it'll go another couple hundred thousand miles. It now sits around as a spare. It was missing the boot and it bothered me to no end. It's only money...

i am amazed my truck has not completely fallen apart yet as very little i know about it :(
    thanks TW

you don't need to explain your 'anal' i can understand to a degree more than others probably can

For those of you who have removed the front diff, on the rear mount did the rubber bushing spin when you removed the hex bolt? Mine does, had to jam a pickle in top to remove it. It doesn't seem the bushing is actually vulcanized to the mount itself, I'm debating if spending the$60 for a new mount is worth it...

So I think the truck is down and out. She overheated pretty good today on the way into work and was misfiring again really bad. The spark plug I swapped out last night was super burnt as well. She really started to smoke as well when I was pulling into the office parking lot and the sweet coolant smell filled the air.

At 301k miles I don't know what I plan to do with the thing. Do I have it fixed and end up paying a shop a good chunk of money to likely machine everything or do I just ask work for a truck allowance (I get paid mileage currently) and get a new truck...

*Edit* Work won't let me get an allowance since I am not a project manager yet... Welp looks like imma have to fix her.

So I threw some liquid electrical tape on it last night after I replaced the contacts, let it cure all day before I try it since the truck is down until I can get that diff seal in next week.

Flushed my slave and master cylinder and still didn't really fix my clutch issue. I guess that's what I'll be doing today at work ha
