Anyone has insight on a ladder rack that still allows me to keep a bed cover on. I'm planning on using the bars to strap my kayak to, but would also like to use a bed cover to secure my items while out on the water. I know Voodoo has hi rise bed bars that allows bed covers but i'm looking for something thats actually taller than the cab.

I've been searching for something similar, and the only options I have found are really expensive, or require modification:
    1. Yakima Overhaul HD rack with the Retrax XR. ($3000)
    2. KB Voodoo/Max Modular rack with an additional basket or bars to mount the boat.

I also found this thread about modifying a roll up tonneau to work with some bed racks.

Home made or custom made.......I made mine for under $225 in materials and haven't welded since my senior year at Penn State in 1979!!!! Also, first time using a MIG welder other than screwing around with it.IMGP1643.jpg IMGP1654.jpg IMGP1657.jpg IMGP1662.jpg
Bought 4 KB Voodoo mounts for the bed (~$80) MUCH easier than trying to bend steel 90 degrees and drill perfectly placed holes!! Plus the steel tubing and hardware to mount the Yakima round bars - I already had them.

Our 22" ALUMAX rack will get the job done, and it will allow you to keep your cover.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I’ve found a bunch out there. I just haven’t decided which to go with. Just Google “over topper rack”. I like the brand Rack-It. Many friends with commercial vehicles like them.

I have a Retraxone XR with the Yakima Outpost HD... I would heavily recommend you go with the Overhaul. It’s light, adjustable crossbar height, and it’s easy to put on and take off if needed. No drilling into the bed or the cover & no modifications needed.

Northern Tool sells a few ladder rack systems that should work on a Taco. They have cross-bed racks and y-racks. I'm looking for a headache rack that also serves as the forward ladder rack and add one y-rack for the rear ladder rack. But the rear y-rack wouldn't allow the tonneau unless it was notched and you probably don't want to do that.
