Rear end had some axle wrap. Thought I’d throw together an anti-wrap bar to help keep my U joints from snapping.

I appreciate it. It’s my first SAS. only ever messed around with jeeps and some buggies.
wish I would have pushed the box forward at least 2 more inches. I’m definitely not touching it now though. LOL

You did a great job. I hesitated to even mention it cause everything looks great. Give it a year and when you are bored some weekend tear it apart and go full hydro, LOL.

Couldn’t get much up travel on this thing. Made some bump stop mounts. Had some of the Wheelers Superbumps from the IFS.
Figured I’d use those to save some $.
Wouldn’t mind going to some air bumps in the future. Would be nice to be able to tune them.

I want to. It’s so much easier. But I’ve heard on these new rigs, the airbag clocking spring or whatever will break if the wheel is able to over rotate. Never had anything this new to know what that means!

And at least it’s set up for assist, so if I ever sell it I could always go back to it if I do go full hydro.

Anyone with any info about full hydro on a second gen, please give your input.

Forgot to mention shocks... I used some Bilsteins I had. They have 14 inches of travel.

That has been the past few months working a couple hours most evenings.

Brings y’all up to present day.

    57AFD94A-5E57-499A-919F-AB21F899DAC6.jpg

Took it on a shakedown run. Broke some stuff.
Broke front U joint. I think the axle wrapped and the U joint angle maxed out and got in a bind. I was also a little airborne and didn’t let out of the throttle. So there’s that.

Passenger side bump must have taken a huge hit. It’s fine, but the drag link hit the frame and bent the DLE.
I’ll have to notch out the frame to clear it in the future.

Stock power steering pump blew out. Box is leaking too.

    EB641428-613F-4C0A-A2E6-43CD90F09EC0.jpg

Ordered a PSC TC pump that should put out more PSI. Rebuild kit for the box. And a kit to use the tundra booster and GM 1 ton master cylinder. Brakes aren’t terrible, but when I go to a bigger tire than a 37 I’m gonna want good brakes.

Gonna move the inlet to my reservoir lower to help with cavitation. Keeps air out of the system.

I’ve been looking at all the 2nd gen SAS’s on here for a while. Just decided to join and see if anyone knew anything I could learn from.
I just went back and added it up. It’s actually been in the garage for 5 months.
I get about 3 nights a week in the garage for a couple hours. And about half of my weekends are spent in there.

Wish I had more time, but I stay busy!

I sold the IFS parts that were on it for $1500 and have probably $1200 in the swap so far so basically free.

edit: I added it up. I’m terrible at estimating. It’s always more than you think.
After the last order for the PS pump and brake kit and seals I am at $3,169 in the SAS

I would still say it’s a budget build cause I used leafs. Coil overs and links add up quick.

that includes tires (a set of 37’s and 38’s) wheels, axle purchase, 35 spline warn hubs, anti wrap bar kit, leaf hangers, slider boxes, weld bungs, TRE’s, diff cover, ram, hydro lines, brake lines, shock tabs, pitman arm, frame plates, steering box mount kit, all fluids, gears, install kit, Dana 60 flange yoke, driveshaft, PSC pump, box rebuild kit, new brake calipers.

That doesn’t count the extra parts I just had laying around from parting out a few rigs and buggies. Which were “free”

I’d call that pretty darn budget by at least $10k compared to most SAS builds on here! Thanks for sharing all this OP. It’s fun to watch someone do things alittle differently.

Finally had a day off to clean her up before I tear into the steering.

I was just looking around the forum. Did I post this thread in the right section?
I saw there were more SAS builds in this section. https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/solid-axle-suspension.123/
I forgot that is where I was browsing to get ideas while I was building this thing.
I am sure an admin could move it if so.

2nd gen builds seems like a perfectly reasonable place for it to me.

Been kinda lazy with my junk.
Pulled the motor out of a buddy’s truck. Something wasn’t right. Can’t quite figure out why it wouldn’t run...

Hopefully I’ll get my steering all hooked up again tomorrow.

Not looking forward to cutting up my passenger frame rail to clear the drag link.

Love the build man, can always appreciate a good leaf spring SAS.
Definitely looking into that pump swap. I modified the factory pump on mine and got alot more flow out of it, but not more pressure. Its moves the Ram pretty good at 1200 or above on the rpm. Under that it's a little sluggish.

Once I get off my lazy butt and finish plumbing it I’ll let you know how it does. I had to modify my reservoir to get the inlet closer to the bottom to keep it from making air bubbles. Just need to mount it and finish mounting my cooler and I’ll have it up and running.
